Key Phrase is the Key
Start with a solid foundation. Every topic and every website has a huge amount of key phrases associated with it. These are the phrases that people would use in a search to find your site. If you have a site about riding bicycles in the mountains, you might come up with key ideas that would include bikes, bike, bicycles, mountain bikes, mountain bicycling, bicycling etc. If in addition you sold wheels and bikes and tires and water bottles than you have a plethora of terms. But your main key phrase is probably mountain bikes or mountain biking.
