Here we go again

Banging heads on the brick wall ?

Well if invading Iraq was a big mistake in the first place, critics will clearly say that by promising to send 21,000 more troops now just shows that George W Bush hasn't learnt from mistakes.

On the one hand we have over 3,000 US soldiers dead and even the US administration agrees that 2007 could yet be the bloodiest year so far. Still more troops could go in the land torn apart by civil war, and probably some more will return back in body bags.

The United States seems to be caught in a trap from which they can't simply cut and run. Probably if Mr. Bush would have sent these troops before the country fell apart, things could have been much secure.

Now I guess we can just sit and pray that the soldiers return home safely. And we must pray for the Iraqi civilians who must live yet another year in terror of the Shia militias and Sunni insurgents on the one hand and the prospect of coalition soldiers knocking on your door on the another, of suicide bombs on busy streets and bombs dropped from one of those US fighter jets.

I do not think we should think in the subjunctive – what might or might not have happened if G. W. Bush had done it otherwise. No one can reverse the time clock and we have to face the reality.

If the USA withdraws its troops from Iraq now (like they did in 1991), will it help restore peace in the country divided on a societal level over who should run the country?

The USA decided to democratize the country against its will (at least against the will of the few in power), why should others sort out the chaos they created?

Don't you just love democracy.

356 people get to decide who's Prime Minister of the UK.

That's 0.000587 percent of the population.

But according to Gary's latest article, if we're using Great Britain as an example it doesn't matter who's voted into power as they all end up doing the same unwanted things anyway! Them, or other Governments who decide to go in and take over. Tiana's right though, there's too much talk about what would have happened if Bush had done things differently. The fact is he did what he did, and will undoubtedly continue to perform these atrocities until someone else takes over to relieve him of his duties. The question is how to go about dealing with the situations he has created.
