A.M.E.C. VP is in!
John Subik will bring out his old E-class early Honda Civic with it's 1500cc engine for the Historic exhibition races in 2007.
John, does it still look this good today?

Thanks goes out to Greg Rickes. He confirmed that this was in fact Roly Heacox at the helm of this MG Magnette, that he "borrowed" from the Nemith Imports used car lot. Looks like Roley stuffed it pretty good.
****: I don't know how you guys raced these cars without winter tires in the old days!

Sometimes one is not enough!
High Falls, NY Historic class ice racer Rik Rydant has recently aquired a second Historic ice racing car.
Wow you don't see these around any more, it's '76 Mercury Capri II. Rik described his most recent automobile purchase a "fatal attraction". Rick saw a poster ad for it in the flea market area at a C.A.M.A. [Connecticut Antique Machine Association] meet in Kent, CT. The car was in Farmington, NJ and Rik struck a deal with the owner and brought it home.
In Rick's own words:
" I bought this 1976 "Spanish Red" Capri car just to get the engine and lots of spare parts for possible conversion into the 1966 Saab. Came with extra engine, trans, four barrel carb, high lift cam, extra heads, manifold, distributors, etc. But after looking it all over decide to save it so starting to fix it up. Seats out and body work under way. Has a German V-6 made in Cologne, West Germany by Ford with a four-speed German trans. The Cologne V-6 is suppose to bolt right up to a Saab transmission. The V6 looks too big. I did some measuring and it would not fit without butchering the Saab's front end. I think I will leave the Saab alone seeing it is such a nice Classic car and the 2 cycle pop-corn sound is what makes it what it is.
The Capri is rear wheel drive so it may not be a great ice racer, however it does have plenty of power. Actually, the 122 Volvo that won the Vintage Class at Carogo Lake was rear wheel drive and he had little or no trouble because of it."

Rik if your car was a V4 that engine would bolt up....but not to the 2 stroke gear box. I think u should you should strip the capri and run E class or sell it to someone who will (HINT ).
THAT CAR WOULD LOOK GOOD LIME GREEN!

Those Capris are really neat cars. I always liked them and actually learned to drive a stick on a silver one in '78.
In Europe, they have an awesome rally pedigree as well.

Re: Sometimes one is not enough!
Rik; Nice Capri! Wanna sell er? Better yet, get your butt in gear and step over to the "real wheel drive" side of ice racin'!!!Seriously, there's nothing like driving the back end with your right foot!! The balance you get with the Volvo is awesome, and my offer to you, since we are towing two 122's to the race, is a spin as a passenger, and as a driver as well. The ice burner from last year or my vintage race car-choose your weapon!
Both Ian and I are very excited, and we'll see you all there!

Great to hear from the Toronto Vintage Volvo racing team of Brian and Ian!
I am glad to hear you are bringing two Vintage Volvo rear wheel drivers this winter guys!
I guess my diminutive Datsun B210 makes three!
....wait a minute, then there's the Dobbins' Studebaker, Tom Baird's P1800, and Steve Garret's Austin Healy Sprite. Man, we'll have a whole gaggle tail out RWD cars.

Lime Green was a very cool color in the 1970's but I like this "Spanish Red" Baby. It looks "Hot" just sitting in the barnyard. Looking to seeing all you ice racers this season, RiK in High Falls

Re: 2007 A.M.E.C. Historic Ice Races! February 24th and 25th
Hello Mike,
They discontinued selling the Capri in the US in 1978 but continued to make and sell them in Europe and Australia up until 1985.If anyone needs parts for a 1971-78 Capri check out www.teamblitz.com. They are located in Johnstown, Ohio and have over 2 million parts located in seven wearhouses for these cars!!!! Again, Website is www.teamblitz.com. They carry new old stock Ford, Used parts, afermarket, repro, and RACING PARTS!!! Now that I know that I am going to look for another one. Owner's name is Norm and his email is blitz@teamblitz.com Have purchased a few parts and you can expect excellent service, RiK Rydant in High Falls,NY

Re: Sometimes one is not enough!
Hello Brian and Ian,
Will bring the "Spanish Red Racer" to Lake George" so you can see up close. I think I could become a used car saleman!!! I have have more people want to buy that car than anything I have ever owned. Emails and calls from all over the Northeast!!!! Interesting!!!!!All of a sudden these cars have just disappeared off the world. One can drive just so far on a "flat world" and then ...... Plenty of Capris in Europe but too costly to import!!! Maybe not. Might be a good idea. Looking foreward to seeing both of you and your families this coming season or at least on the Feb. 24-25 weekend at Lake George. Pray for a cold winter!!!! Wait, forgot about my heat bill there for a moment. RiK in High Falls, NY
