Re: Sometimes one is not enough!
Hello Brian and Ian,
Will bring the "Spanish Red Racer" to Lake George" so you can see up close. I think I could become a used car saleman!!! I have have more people want to buy that car than anything I have ever owned. Emails and calls from all over the Northeast!!!! Interesting!!!!!All of a sudden these cars have just disappeared off the world. One can drive just so far on a "flat world" and then ...... Plenty of Capris in Europe but too costly to import!!! Maybe not. Might be a good idea. Looking foreward to seeing both of you and your families this coming season or at least on the Feb. 24-25 weekend at Lake George. Pray for a cold winter!!!! Wait, forgot about my heat bill there for a moment. RiK in High Falls, NY

Re: 2007 A.M.E.C. Historic Ice Races! February 24th and 25th
Well after a trip to Darryl’s humble abode this past weekend I think I have a car I might enter into the historical race. It’s a very clean, rust free, dent free, primer free 1974 SAAB 99 LE automatic. All I have to do to it is give it a good wash throw a set of tires on it that don’t leak air and put back the 4 stock hub caps that came with the car. Also get the car running everything their just been sitting for a very long time.

Speaking of Historic Saabs,
Take a look at these pics from Shannon Kelsey. They were recently taken at North Country Imports in Glens Falls. I asked Shannon for more details and he told me this:
"Glad you liked the pics, Mike. That car was recently puchased by Len Schrader(Reinersten Motors) in New Jersey. The original owner was Willy Lewis (from Maine). I used to watch Willy race at Limerock when I was a kid. I still have his autograph in a scrapbook. Len will be racing this car in the VSCCA. I don't know if you know Len but he is no stranger to ice racing. I know the brakes need some repair, not sure what else the car needs. I do know that when the car leaves North Country Imports, it will be RACE READY."
And take a look at this! I love the old Saab Motorsport cross ram induction setup. Awesome!

Hello Fonzy,
Thanks for the kind words. I hope these guys realize how lucky they are, because it takes a lot of time and energy to put on an event like this. I can tell you this: the ones that ran last year loved it!
I have to thank our club officers and members who go along with it when I present them with something new I'd like to try. An idea is only an idea until the effort is made to actually carry it out. I think that the success of our no-contact Street Legal classes are what opened the door for the Historic races. Until we could show that dent free racing was possible, I don't think the Historic cars would have come out to play.

The oldest Historic car yet.......
Great news another early Saab will be saved, refurbished, and will be joining us for this race. This is Mike Grieco's 1960 Saab 93f from NJ.
Mike said he picked this car up this year. It's missing a rear window and needs all the brakes done. The car runs but has some carb problems and he is going to try to get it together for our Historic ice races. He also needs to get a trailer or tow dolly because it's not street legal. He found some 185-65-15 snow tires that will be studded for it.
I see a Sonett over there too. Maybe another future Historic ice racer?
Welcome Mike and Nice car! It will be a great addition to the field in this event!

Re: The oldest Historic car yet.......
I doubt that the 185/65-15 tires will fit in the wheel wells without RUBBING issues!! 165's maybe but they're even a whisker big for the 93...
I am about 100% sure that my son ,Jim has a pile of glass that would fit that car...or for that matter...tons of parts.

Thanks Claude,
I was thinking the same thing. When Rik Rydant tried to mount taller than stock tires, they rubbed. Particularly in the rear. I'll let Mike know. I'll put him in touch with Jimmy for the glass too.

I ran 185/70=15's on my 96, no problems. Maybe the "Special" with different wheels,4 bolt, had a different offset.
