Re: 2007 A.M.E.C. Historic Ice Races! February 24th and 25th
Last year's winner of the Best Historic race car at last year's event was Bruce Turk and his beautiful Saab 96 rallye car.
Bruce just sent me a note to let me know that he has decided to jump in and restore a rusty rocker box on his car but that he will have the car ready in time for this year's big Historic weekend. In his own words:
"Hi Mike,
You asked for pictures of cars getting prepped for the Historic ice race. Well, here are some before, during and after pictures of my 1961 Saab undergoing much needed rocker panel and floor panel replacement. The drivers side is now complete. I'm now working on the passenger side. Come hell or high water I'll be ready for racing!"
Regards,
Bruce T
It looks great Bruce. Keep up the good work!

Re: 2007 A.M.E.C. Historic Ice Races! February 24th and 25th
Historic Class Update
The ice on Lake George actually skinned over about a week earlier than usual this year. At this point things are looking up to hold our second Historic Ice racing event as planned, on beautiful Lake George right in front of Million Dollar Beach.
We are planning to hold a dinner banquet on Saturday night February 24th, at our event host hotel, the Lake George Holiday Inn.
All ice racers are invited to join us for a buffet dinner and awards presentations after the races.
This year I have reserved a banquet room in our host hotel for our Saturday night after race awards dinner party. We will be presenting trophies for the top three in each Historic class, plus some special awards as well.
Dinner will include:
Assorted Relishes and Condiments
Home Made Rolls and Butter
Mixed Garden Green Salad
Antipasto salad
Cole Slaw
Vegetable
Potato
Hot Entrees include- Broiled Salmon, Baked Chicken w/Stuffing and Herb Sauce, and Pork Loin w/Garlic Mustard Sauce.
Also: Hot Carving station featuring Prime Rib of Beef
Dessert: Banana Cream Pie
Coffee, Tea, Milk, or Decaf
Dinner Mints
Tax and gratuity is all included for $30 per person.
Please contact me to reserve seat[s] for you and yours. My phone number is (518) 674-0520 or email mkamm at icerace dot com.

Re: 2007 A.M.E.C. Historic Ice Races! February 24th and 25th
Bruce Carlton reported to me that according to a Lake George Carnival worker, they have about 8" of ice on Lake George as of Sunday.
That's about 8" more than we had at this time last year.

Re: 2007 A.M.E.C. Historic Ice Races! February 24th and 25th
Great news,
We finally have what used to be a very popular car in early A.M.E.C. ice racing entered in this historic event..... a Corvair!
Cohoes, NY resident Bob Addis will be driving a 1964 Corvair Monza convertible with a combination of studded and screwed tires borrowed from Dave Burnham's, Bruce Carlton's, and Ray Zabinski's vintage ice racing tire collections.
Welcome from the spectator area to the driver's seat Bob! If you remember, convertible cars were required to run with their tops down in the early years of ice racing. Don't forget your scarf Bob!

Re: 2007 A.M.E.C. Historic Ice Races! February 24th and 25th
In other news,
In addition to Theo Brown [from DZM films] shooting video all of the Historic weekend at Lake George for a possible cable tv special [seen here] , Michael DiPleco of DiPleco Productions contacted me for a photo credentials as well. Here was his letter:
Hello Michael,
I work freelance and my images have run in Vintage Racecar Journal, Victory Lane, Classic Motorsports and Vintage Motorsports. If you require a letter of purpose from one of the editors, please let me know and I will have one sent to you. I'm very happy that enough ice has formed to race last weekend!
