Welcome to the boards Matt!
Thanks for the compliments and allow me to say that we're very pleased to have the Nelsons run with us each year.

Re: 2007 A.M.E.C. Historic Ice Races! February 24th and 25th
When I was leaving for the Lake on Saturday, I met this man who was rebuilding his distributer in the stairwell. It turned out to be Mike Space, who drove his '59 Volvo 300 miles to get to the event. That is hardcore.

That is too funny. Like I said Mike is a neat guy with a great sense of humor. Some one asked him why he was rebuilding his distributor in the stairwell instead of hs room. Reportedly his answer was that the color of the carpet there matched the color of the solvent he was using!

Mark Donohue ice racing info sought.....
I received this email from Michael Argetsinger, son of Cameron R. Argetsinger, founder and early organizer of racing in Watkins Glen. I am hoping someone here can possibly help Michael with any info or details regarding Mark Donahue's ice racing expliots in '59 and '60. Michael's contact info are at the bottom of this post.
Thanks,
Mike Kamm
Dear Mr. Kamm,
I discovered your terrific web site. Congratulations on it. It has some great old photos along with the current activities.
My reason for writing is that I am writing a biography of race driver Mark Donohue. I know that he raced his '57 Corvette in ice races at Lake Naomi in Pennsylvania the winter of 1959/60. I realize that is not where your organization races -- but I wonder if anyone from your group remembers the races at lake Naomi and may, by chance, remember Mark in those days. A long shot I know -- but any thoughts at all will be gratefully received.
Best Wishes,
Michael Argetsinger

Re: 2007 A.M.E.C. Historic Ice Races! February 24th and 25th
I'll bet most of you Historic racers don't know that RiK Rydant has driven in a regular season race with A.M.E.C. as well as in our Historic races this year. He ran in our unstudded SL class with his other Historic class car, the Capri II. Rick never drove a RWD car on the ice before and he wasn't very comfortable in the fairly powerful V6 powered Capri. They're a lot harder to control than the FWD Saabs, that's for sure.
Of course hindsight is 20/20, but Rik now knows that this is the car he should have brought to the Historic ice races at Lake George, albeit with screw tires on it. I'll bet this is the car you will see him in next year!
Look at the dual exhaust on this baby.
The 2.8 liter German built V6 has got a big carburetor on it and headers too!

So Mike, after reading your comments about Rik's Capri, does this mean there will be another Historic race next year?

Hi Steve,
Actually, I'll have to confer with the club officers at next month's meeting to see if they want to do it again next year. I know one thing though, if it there is a 2008 Historic ice racing event, we will need someone new to work with the club as the organizer.

Historic ice racing info sought....
I was forwarded this email note from Eugene Bowser. He is looking for any info about his Dad's early days of sports car racing on the ice and otherwise. Eugene writes:
My name is Eugene Bowser and I'm looking for anything I can on my father. He owned several saabs in the 50's and early 60's before he was killed in his last saab in 65'. I noticed in the Saab registry one was found in Onieda, N.Y. I know my father belonged to the moose club in Oniedaso there is some connection as weak as it may be. He and my mother were very active in the Mohawk Valley Sports Car Club, which I believe they were also founding memebers, although I could be wrong. What I would like to know is, is there any to trace these cars back to thier previous owners other than just by here say By the way I do have some pictures from the sports car club days such as meets at GE and racing on oneida lake. Any info you have would be deeply appreciated although I know this is a long shot. Thanks for time
Sincerly,
Eugene Bowser
Can anyone recall or identify anything from these images? Any information would be much appreciated!
Mike

Can't say I recognize any of the cars or people in the photos. I also don't recall the name in any of the AMEC archives, maybe **** Vedder remembers Mr. Bowser.
