Re: Hutchings Wins Season OPENER at BREWERTON
With the three toyota cars of the erwin group coming back to Brewerton speedway this year we didn't know what to expect. these guys are experienced and they are FAST!!!
Claude Jr won the heat race from the outside pole, but there weren't any real "contenders" in his heat race. The Feature Lineup was all of the six fastest cars right in those first three rows, and the 84JR on the POLE.
In turn one of the first lap, a car hit the wall and created the only caution of the race, bringing the field back to an original restart. On the second start, the outide row car got the jump on Claude Jr and put a car length on him going into turn one. That didn't last long as junior went low and put the Snookers to those Toyota's and took the lead and never looked back. The feature went Caution free after that and went to Victory Lane for the first race of the season at Brewerton.
We made the trip to Fulton Speedway Saturday morning with the Bicknell sportsman. The water truck broke and the track got dry, real fast, but Claude Jr got a few good runs in and we brought the car home real happy and are anticipating the first race at Fulton next saturday night.

Re: Hutchings Wins Season OPENER at BREWERTON
Bob.....we'll be at the Brewerton speedway on Friday night with the Four cylinder superstock, gates open at five PM and we're usually there right after that,5:15 or so...come on over and join us in the pits. Brewerton Speedway way is jus off from I-81 north of Syracuse about 15 miles or so until you see the Brewerton exit...track is right in town ...ask anyone.
Saturday night we'll be at the Fulton Speedway in Fulton ,NY which is right at the end of I-481 north out of Syracuase. It would be great to see you whatever night you choose. Saturdays race car will be the Dirt Sportsman for his Debut in the new car.

Bob...Great....It'll be good to see ya!! When you enter the PIT area just head straight south until you see the row of Four Cylinder Superstocks and you can't miss the YELLOW #84JR SAAB.
You better be Good luck!!! 2 in a row would be a great way to start the season!! (LOL)

Re: Hutchings Wins Season OPENER at BREWERTON
Claude Jr's latest Interview wih Doug elkins is up on that website.
you can listen to it on www.dougsdirtdiary.com just go to the latest audio files.
Doug always seems to ask Jr about his Ice racing. It's a pretty funny interview in the beginning as Jr tells Doug that he left the ornament that is typically tied on his rear bumper.

Re: Hutchings Wins Season OPENER at BREWERTON
I thought we were going to be rained out tonight....as soon as we arrived it was sprinkling lightly.the rain held off and the races were on!!
Bob Konig,NMIRA Pres showd up in the pits tonight. He is in rochester on business and made a trip over to see Claude Jr in action. It was great to see him out in the summertime and I think he really enjoyed the little Bull ring at Brewerton.
The 84jr started in the 7th position in his heat race and a first lap malay with Jr going into the infield to miss the mess put him in the top three in the first lap....on the next lap or so,while running in second he had to come to a complete stop to avoid the leader who had spun out in front of him..fired right back up,took off and won his second heat race of the first two weeks at Brewerton!!
Feature time:
Starting ninth on the grid on a very slick-slippery track with a lot of Beginners and slow cars in front of him it was a very difficult (slppy) feature tonight, there was a caution on lap 7 but Jr had only gotten to 5th,being very cautious not to rub anybody, the rest of the feature went caution free but th 84JR SAAB had to settle for 2nd tonight as tonights feature turned out to be a lesson in defensive driving...
We'll head out to Fulton speedway tonight (Saturday) with the new sportsman Bicknell Crate engine sportsman for some more racing action....this ought to be fun!!!!
Here is a quote from the Brewerton website;
The 4 Cylinder Super Stocks saw a Toyota Camry in victory lane for the very first time as Russell Erwin powered his way thru the pack after starting in the six spot.
As Erwin ran away with win as defending division champion Claude Hutchings Jr finished in the second position .
“The track was super slick , but the car stuck and ran real well,” Erwin said. “I didn’t know where anyone was behind us, I just concentrated on hitting the marks.”
Hutchings jr, Chuck Powelczyk, Glenn Erwin and Sam Curcie rounded out the top five.

Re: Hutchings Wins Season OPENER at BREWERTON
Drove all the way to Fulton Speedway only to get cancelled 10 minutes after we got there...Oh well thats less work on the schedule for this coming week and the car is still in one piece!!!! we needed the rain anyways.
Instead,we went to "Smoky Bones" for some great barbecue and got home early for once.

Re: Hutchings Wins Season OPENER at BREWERTON
You could always try your hand with the Sportsman car at Utica Rome Sunday night if you are looking for some close to home track time. They only had 16 Sportsman cars last week so you guys would have no problem making the feature and get a lot of track time.
