Re: Anyone for a hill climb
Well I had an uneventful weekend at Okemo.
Arrived Fri. afternoon so that I could take the rookie orientation, register and tech.
The Killington club is very laid back and not to concerned about adhearing to there printed schedule. I was greeted warmly by everyone, officials and some of the drivers.
On Sat. we did a fam run and then first practice run. The corners are all marked but with 30 such it can be challenging. Some are fast and some not so. There is one "straight" where you go flat out and I was hitting close to 90 mph. The hill takes quite a lot of shifting.
The road is not in the best condition in some spots, pavement braking up and at one point the road had been cut for a drain pipe and was filled just with dirt. That and a couple other spots were rough on the suspension.
After our run group had all completed the run up we all started back down. Almost as much fun as going up. You need good brakes.
We got three runs and then it poured.
Sun. was for timed runs. First run was in the dry, second run the road was damp from light rain but the road has very good grip.
as the rain increased, the event was called.
I really needed more practice.
I got to talk to a few people about ice racing.
So all in all I had a good time.
**** V.

Re: Anyone for a hill climb
Richard,
Thanks for the informative recap. I give you credit for going, even though no other A.M.E.C. people joined in. How many cars were there competing?

Re: Anyone for a hill climb
I did feel kind of lonesome at times but everyone was very friendly and open.
One of the officials, after we were done on Sunday, asked if I had fun.
There were 40 entries.
Lunch for workers and drivers both days was included in the entry. They shut down the hill for lunch.
Another thing I thought was intereting.
For comunication they run a phone line up the hill. AMEC used phones back in the days.
