Daniel Oizumi can't make it now, so Lloyd Bagley is now in with his 1994 Pontiac Bonneville.

Re: AMEC Autocross at Albany Saratoga Speedway November 7th or 8th

Here are some Autocross history stories from two AMEC friends and participants that I heard from tonight.

We said that this autocross was a family affair over the years. AMEC member Allen Pashley informed me that he won the first (and probably only) bicycle race on the autocross track. Apparently during a lunch break the kids from all the families were out riding there bikes on the track and the track announcer started an impromptu bike race for them. They started on the back stretch and went through all the gates on the course. Allen says he peddled his butt off on a bike he borrowed from Dan Carlton another long time AMEC member and eventual president of AMEC to the first official bicycle autocross win! That was probably in the 70’s.

This in from Greg Ricks who possibly was at the first autocross held by AMEC at the speedway in the fall of 1968.

"I had a SAAB that Karl Scharl and Hans Flebbe had ice raced. They melted a piston when they forgot to put oil in the gas (fortunately the piston melted before the crankshaft burned its bearings). Having more enthusiasm than mechanical ability I nevertheless got the engine running again, and did a little clean-up on the car. Took it to Malta for the auto-x, and the starter motor broke. Not burned out, broke. This SAAB didn't have a solenoid it had a handle you pulled to engage the starter. One of the bolts wasn't tight enough and the starter got ****ed and cracked one of the ears on the casting.
This car had an electronic clutch, called a Sachs-a-matic or something, so you couldn't push start it. I watched the event from the sidelines :-(
I didn't own the car, so I gave the car back to Karl. I think they ice raced a few more times then it probably got scrapped."

I looked through the AMEC minutes of the meetings form 1968 and 69 this evening and there were al lot of mentions of the Albany Saratoga Speedway autocrosses mostly just nuts and bolts kind of stuff who does what etc. It looks like the first one was October 1968 and **** Vedder was the course chairmen for the event amazing isn't it because he is in the same position for this event 41 years later!

Thanks for letting us know Josh. Looks like #25 Jon Crystal has now made it into MU with his turbocharged 2007 Mazdaspeed3. emoticon

I've assigned all 9 drivers from team Pashley numbers as such:

#00 Tom Graham - 1995 Honda Civic - SU
#2 Allen Pashley - 1995 Honda Civic - SU
#12 Richard Pashley - 1995 Honda Civic - SU
#20 Bob Pashley - 1995 Honda Civic - SU
#30 Danny Lee - 1995 Honda Civic - SU
#37 Steve LaForest - 1995 Honda Civic - SU
#46 Michelle Spaulding - 1995 Honda Civic - SU
#55 Duane Stangle - 1995 Honda Civic - SU
#66 Jeff DeLong - 1995 Honda Civic - SU

Their numbers are far enough apart that they should have plenty of time to switch drivers and get back in line.

All I can say is I hope that car doesn't break, because there will be a lot of drivers out 40 bucks. Image

Dave Burnham gave me the idea to post some video footage from the AMEC historic DVD on this thread. This morning I quickly uploaded some silent video to youtube. I will post more tonight.
Can anyone put dates and names to this video?

Hello. my name is William Fish and, as much as I would love to run this event... My car is not up to it.

I will be coming down to view the race as a spectator, and hope to get a better understanding of how everything works.

For future races, I will try to get in, but right now... Registration is full(I understand) and my Little 78 Chevette has some radiator problems.

I hope to get into more autocross and rally events in the area
