Chronic Gaditano problem
I have a **** bird (Steve knows him as the foundation to the 'Circus line') and every summer he has a chronic problem with getting his crop bound from drinking too much water. They do that sometimes when the temps get about 105. He's been doing it a couple of times a week this month. So, at the suggestion of my friend Rene Kruter from Holland I am attempting to permanently reduce the size of his crop with the "BH method," as he calls it.
I pulled a piece of about 1" of skin at the lower part of his crop and rapped a rubber band around the base of the skin I want removed. The blood circulation is supposed to stop and the skin will fall off over a period of time. It is supposed to be absolutely painless for the bird. Of course he can't be shown after that but he won't have anymore problems either. I did it two days ago and he's doing great. He eats and drinks all he can without a problem. But the rubber band hasn't fallen off yet, so we shall see. This may be the answer for problematic birds.

Re: Chronic Gaditano problem
I've used rubber bands to dehorn, dock tails, and casterate. It takes awhile but I see no reason it won't work.
