Picture: David Threlfall as Frank Gallagher in a 'spoof thingie' for you to laugh at!

Now this is worth watching... yet I've only cottoned on to it late on!

A friend lent me the first two series the other week and I've gone through 'em like a fat lad goes through a dairylea tub when he's been bullied (and without spoon - fingers only!) and feels that food's his only comfort.

Now up to series four which has just finished on Channel 4... although I'll soon be starting on series 3, so again I'm playing 'catch up'.

So what's it about then?

Some info from series one...

Blisteringly funny, offbeat drama following the rollercoaster lives and loves of an anarchic family from Manchester. Meet the Gallaghers. Mum went AWOL years ago, Dad stayed at home with the six children only to hit the bottle. And sometimes the kids... The real head of the family is big sister Fiona (20), who looks after Carl (11), Debbie (9) and baby Liam (3). She is occasionally helped, more often hindered, by reluctant virgin 'Lip' (16) and the actively gay, but very private, Ian (15).

Welcome to a hectic world of sexual adventures, triumphs, love, scams and a fair bit of crime on a rough Manchester housing estate, where wheel-less cars are the norm and the moving ones are stolen.

More Info here

Anyroad... here's a compilation clip that features some sweary words... pretty funny are the one's by Marty (who has Tourette's) and... well, have a look!

Update... I have to say that the new series that's being shown currently on Channel 4 isn't as good as the other stuff, and it seems to be 'running out of steam' so to speak... there's still some funny stuff in there though, and my favourite family (The Maguires) are still prevalent - it's not bad... but not as funny as the older stuff I reckon.

Yep... they were great characters - as was Marty too!

It's pretty 'diluted' now and nowhere near as good... but The Maguire family are great in it...

To be honest though, if it weren't for them... and "Yervonne" and the coppers, I'ld probably give it a miss, as the other characters just ain't got it now - even Frank's stuff's not as good as it was - pity really.

Have to say that this week's episode was a good 'un featuring Paddy's twin brother 'Noel' (Sean Gilder playing both roles)

And Frank was in it only a wee bit, but had some good scenes where he'd taken £3000 worth of drugs!

Glad to see a decent episode - some of 'em have been a bit 'ropey' this series.

Hmm... has to be said though, that apart from one or two dcent episodes, Series 5 of this was pretty crap - I reckon it's run it's course now - when it gets to daft sh*t like 'flashbacks' and 'dream sequences' you can tell they're running out of material.

I have to admit I've never watched a single episode of "Shameless" - only seen trailers and the odd bit if I've been flicking channels. Didn't like what I saw, but I can understand people finding it funny ~ just not my personal cup o' tea.

Fair comment... when it first came on I couldn't be bothered... only after seeing a re-run did I get into it...

Probably because it reminded me of some of the rough folk/estates I'd been out to in various jobs (such as gardener for the council) - that made me find it funny.

Trouble is - like more things... keep the ame formula, it eventually gets diluted.

very true! I think Caroline Aherne was right to curtail The Royle Family when she did and just come back a while later with The Queen Of Sheba episode.
