Stowaways and YB-40 Bomb Run
I flew a deep mission last evening (10 zones) with the YB-40. Two things occurred that I want to report (or at least clarify).
1. When the plane went down due to loss of fuel, an additional crew member (navigator) from another aircraft appeared in the crew list, bailing out with the twelve men formally assigned. He also appeared in the final accounting at the end of the mission.
No wonder the YB-40s were slow, taking on extra deadweight crew like that.
2. My YB-40 appears not to have made the bomb run over the target -- no bombs on board, but exposure to flak there is an important part of the game -- nor did it fly the return leg of the target zone. The plane went from "outbound" in Zone 10 directly to "return" in Zone 9. My presumption is that the YB-40s stayed with the regular groups through the whole mission, and so this seems to skip a couple of important segments of the flight.

Re: Stowaways and YB-40 Bomb Run
I know the YB-40 is less than perfectly implemented. (Kind of like conveniently forgetting to implement ammo tracks in the Lancaster.) The crew member thing is probably a bug, and the zone thing definitely is. In fact, I think I know what might be causing it, without even looking at the code. (There's a "bombs on board" flag, which the YB-40 would always be "no", and which affects turn-around point. That will be the first place I look.)

Re: Stowaways and YB-40 Bomb Run
While investigating this bug, I noticed that my YB-40 was querying me to abort mission every outbound zone, before I had sustained any abortable damage. Stepping through the debugger, I discovered that the reason was that my "bombardier" (!?) had status = 6 (POW), and that was hitting the check for bombardier status >= 3 (SW). There is no bombardier on a YB-40. This appears to be an early symptom that eventually manifested itself to tigone when he had to bailout.

Re: Stowaways and YB-40 Bomb Run
The above did not happen when I started the emulator up, then ran a Yb-40 mission. The incident I experienced happened after I ran a B-17 mission where my crew bailed out, followed by the YB-40 mission. It looks like legacy data is being retained in the bomber structure, rather than neutralized, causing a subsequent mission in the same session to access that legacy data.

Re: Stowaways and YB-40 Bomb Run
Got it.
Created ClearMission() and ClearBomber() routines that are called at the beginning of the InitializeMission() and InitializeBomber() routines, respectively.
The new routines set all data in those structures, and any member sub-structures, to "", 0 or False, depending on data type.
Flew B-17 to Abbeville, followed in the same session by flying a YB-40 to Abbeville. I did not get a ghost bombardier, and was thus not bothered by a spurious abort query.

Re: Stowaways and YB-40 Bomb Run
Etc ...
I am unable to recreate the "not flying through flak" error. In every case, the YB-40 has escorted the formation through the flak box. The YB-40 has passed through both the outbound target zone and the return target zone every time. On a mission to Brest, after three German waves:
Target Zone
Light flak.
Bomber hit by 1 flak bursts.
1 flak hits.
Nose: Superficial damage
Escorted formation drops bombs.
Then three more German waves in the return target zone.
UNABLE TO RECREATE
