How to Post a Photo

Runboard has no tool to attach a photo to a post. To insert a photo you must capture the url of the photo and insert it into the post. So any image that is not already on the web has to be uploaded and published such as from a digital camera or an image that you have scanned.

To Insert an Image that is Already on the Web

Such as a photo you have uploaded to winni.com or to the Sunset/Hills Blog (This is the Quicktopic Discussion Space found on the Sunset Lake / Hills Pond page. I have left this option available for anyone who would like to upload a photo so that they can place it over here.) or anywhere else on the internet.

Right click on the photo. Go to properties. Highlight the url. Hit 'control' and the key 'c' simultaneously. (c = copy) This place the url for the image on your clipboard.

Go to the post where you would like to insert your image. Place your cursor on the spot where you would like your image to appear. Now, go and click the insert image button. A prompt appears where you will enter the url of the photo. Do this by hitting 'control' and the key "v" simultaneously (v = velcro) and the url should appear in the post and....there you go.

EXAMPLE:
Here's the url of a photo I posted on winni.com

http://www.winnipesaukee.com/photopost/data/510/medium/IMG_6869.JPG

and here's the photo.... go up and click on "Insert Image" enter the url......

mcdude,
That is clear as mud. Some won't even get by the URL part of your write up. You are not explaining this to everyone that understands computer savy. The way it is written doesn't sound very user friendly to me. Can you make it a little clearer and while your at it come up with and easy way to install the avatar. (sp) :|

sorry! Stop into the Lounge sometime and I'll demonstrate the technique. :)

....anyone can jump in here and try to make it more clear.

This thread would be a good place to practice. You could even use the photo banner at the top of the page to capture the url. Try it! :holy:

Re: How to Post a Photo

The process is a little different with a MAC if that is what you have. I use MAC at home and PC at work.
With the MAC, find a picture on the internet and just put your pointer on the picture. Hold your regular click b u t t o n down until a menu appears. Choose "copy image location", then go to the forum to write a reply. When you get to the part of your message where you want the picture to be, go above the message block and click on "insert image". The box that pops up will ask you to enter the image URL, which is just the internet location where the picture is. The URL is what was copied when you picked "copy image location", so now, all you have to do is "paste" that location in the box. With the MAC, you can either press the "apple" key and the "v" key at the same time or go up to the "edit" menu at the top of the screen and choose "paste"

Like McDude said about the PC process, it is very similar but you right click on the image you want and choose and select "properties" and then "copy image location". Pasting is done either with the "edit" menu like with the MAC or by pressing the "control" key and the "v" key at the same time.

If the picture that you want to post is your own and not already on the internet somewhere, you need to go to a hosting site such as http://imageshack.us/
Once you are there, you will click on the "browse" b u t t o n and search for the picture that is on your computer. When you find your picture and select it, a location will appear in the box next to that "browse" b u t t o n. Now, click on the b u t t o n that says "host it!".
This will bring up a new page with a bunch of web addresses. Scroll down to the bottom and highlight the one that says "direct link". This is the web address for your picture. Now you copy this link using the "edit" menu or pressing the "control" key and the "c" key at the same time for a PC, or press the "apple" key and the "c" key at the same time for a MAC . Then you do the pasting as explained above.

To set an avatar, follow the above procedures to get a picture and when you come to this forum, click on the link near the top of the page that says "control panel". Then click the box that says "change miscellaneous settings" You will see a box at the top that says "Avatar 60x60 pixels image URL(optional):" The box to the right is where you paste your image location. The avatars at this forum are set to 90 x 90 pixels even though it says 60 x 60. Pixels are the little dots that make up the picture. The pictures that McD and myself are using are 125 x 125 pixels and are being shrunk down by the forum settings. Your avatar will look best if it is not smaller than the forum setting. If it is a huge picture, it will take longer to show up or it may not even accept it.

McDude,
Do you want to change your settings to 125 x 125 to match the WoffL forum?

Optimizing pictures for avatar use is a little more complicated but if you want to use one of your own pictures, send it to me in a Private Message and I will resize it for you.

Jscott has a bunch of nifty avatars at:
http://home.earthlink.net/~fatkitty5/AVATARS.html
You can choose one of these, but some are smaller than 90 x 90 pixels and may look blurry when you use it here.

The Sunset/Hills Blog is a place where you can upload photos and then capture the url. Go over here.....

Is the mud getting clearer. We'll see in just a moment when I push the next couple of keys.
Let's go for a ride over to McDudes.
Well it's not what I expected as I was trying for just a picture. We'll keep on trying.

EUREKA
It worked. Now all I have to do is remember what the hell I did.
I have to confess. I did borrow the picture from someone on the wolfboro.net. Sorry if it bothered the one I took it from, but I like it.

RLW,
Did you want your car to look like it got caught between two tractor trailer trucks or something more like this?
