sunset lake access?
Greetings,
I live in Alton and would like to fish / boat on Sunset lake, but i can't see where there is any access. As it is a "great Pond" of the state of NH and therefore public, is there any place to launch a boat?
Thanks.

I was hoping someone else might respond but I'll give it a shot. As far as I know there is NO public access although I know what you mean about it being a great pond. You used to be able to get a kayak or a canoe in down by the dam but I've noticed lately there are NO PARKING signs and a sign that says "State Property - No Tresspassing" (or something like that). Re: sunset lake access?
Thanks for the reply Mcdude.
I am in no way advocating doing anything to diminish the WONDERFUL peace and calm the residents of Sunset lake now enjoy, but the state really does need to put some sort of access on the lake. Nothing more than a little dirt ramp and a few trailer parking spots is needed. With all of the lakes in the area, sunset residents need not worry about being "overrun". Besides, 99.9999% of vacationers come up to go directly to Lake Winni. :)
I too like to get away from the "big lake" now and then and enjoy our smaller gems like Manning, Crystal, Halfmoon, and shellcamp lakes.
Take care,
Scott

Scott: I finally got off my duff last summer, threw the kayak in the back of the Jeep (no messing with those roof rack things) and headed over to Manning, Crystal and Upper Suncoo k which I had never paddled before. It was great fun checking out the other lakes. I too k a lot of photos for the webpage of Upper Suncoo k and Manning. Regretfully my batteries fizzled out while paddling on Crystal (grrrrr)
Follow the links below to view some of the photos.
Where is the access to Shellcamp?

Re: sunset lake access?
The access to shellcamp is very easy to miss. If you go down 140 toward tilton, and take the very first left after the route 107 intersection and follow it about a mile, there is a dirt ramp and very limited parking on the right just before the road turns off to the right at the north end of the lake. If you come to the area where the road comes right up to the water's edge, you've gone too far.
The fishing in all of the aformentioned lakes is so much better than " the big lake". The bass are very plentiful, big, and stupid! The size of the largemouths make you think you are fishing in Florida!
I will have to post some photos this spring!

Scott,
The part that you state that the state should put in a small area for cars and trailers is fine and dandy, but where are they going to do it. The state does not own any land other than the location of the dam. That had to be closed due to so much vandalism and wild drinking parties. Sorry to say, but this person thinks things are going to get alot worse than better in the future also.
