Gate Separates Halfmoon from Locke Lake!

I wouldn't make these things up. From the Baysider April 20, 2006
"....representatives from the Halfmoon Association spoke to the board (of selectmen) about precautions that had been taken, including a grating system that didn't allow watercraft to freely pass between the lakes. The representatives said that this was done by the state, primarily, to prevent the spread of milfoil into Halfmoon Lake, and that the gratings along the dam that separates the two lakes was there to allow fish to travel freely through, but prevented jet skiis and other watercraft from doing so. Selectman Frank Sullivan said, "The town has spent a lot of money to control milfoil and continues to do so. We don't want it spreading to another lake."

Askin suggested sending a letter to the head of the Locke Lake Association stating the reasons for the grating system, which was installed by the state, and the steps that kayakers and jet skiiers could take."
