Safety @ Goring
Safety At Goring
Goring Is a great place to kite on a mid to high tide, although many kite here at the lowest tide.
I think its fair to say its not the safest place to kite, but with a bit of commonsense and care you will have as much fun here as anywhere else.
First Time At Goring
Before you leave home check the weather and tides, as quite often people turn up for a low tide session and find the tide is to high or to low.
If you have more than one kite then it is advised that you bring it, as the wind conditions are always changing.
On arrival
On arrival take a few minutes to walk over to the beach and access the situation, take note of where the rock pools and other hazards are, speak to other riders if you are unsure.
Setting up at Goring
Setting up at Goring is luxury compared to some place's, as you can pump your kite and launch on the green right next to your car.
If you are not local to the area dont set up away from the other kiters, it is better for us and the local residents if we minimise the area taken up with our gear.
Launch and landing
Launch and landing is usualy done on the green as there is not much room for error on the beach.
People will be more than happy to help if you ask.
If you are a Begginer please tell some one if you are not 100% confident. ( you will get more help and respect from others if they know your situation.)
Get your kite up and make your way to the beach as quikly and safley as possible.
Making your way to the water
Making your way to the water can sometimes be awkward as the grass can be slippery and the wind un-steady, due to the land bank and houses.
If you need someone to hold your harness and walk you to the beach, again just ask.
Usaualy we pass between the beach huts and the fishing boat, as this is the shortest route.
when passing the boat and huts, it is better to keep your kite quite high as the wind is a bit messy here, and the kite can fall out the sky.
Waterstart
Make sure you take some time to observe where the rocks and other hazards are and give yourself plenty of room.
USE YOUR BRAIN, BE SAFE AND THINK OF OTHERS.
