2005/06 Predictions

OK, here goes:

1. Thornbury
2. Saltford
3. BSXI
4. Christchurch
5. BUCU
6. Widcombe
7. Rock
8. Pip'n'Jay
9. Elim
10.Sanctuary

I think if anyone else gives this a go they'll realise how exciting the 1st Div is looking next season. It's really tough to call. Even looking at my choices I'm not sure about them but this is based on my limited experience of the teams involved.

Re: 2005/06 Predictions

The main problem is that both BUCU and Widcombe's teams change every year. Even they don't know what team they will be fielding next season and so predictions on both of those are difficult. Both seem to be saying that next year is not going to be a fruitful year - who knows.

I would put Elim higher than relegation. With Rock not scoring many goals last season maybe they should be in there instead of Elim, as they managed to beat the top teams last season.

I think Pip n Jay should be a higher placing, although where is another issue. They are consistant, and play good football. I suppose its down to how they would cope with the more physical teams, which has been suggested of us, even after beating Christchurch and Thornbury.

I think that the teams to watch for the championship would be Thornbury, BSx1, Saltford and one other team from the dark who I can't begin to predict.

Maybe relegation will come to Sanctuary, Rock, Elim - well I don't know. Its really hard to predict what will happen. Should be exciting.

I think next season is far too tight to call. If you look at each teams potential there is not much in it between all those teams. I think it will come down to who can field a consistent starting line up the most and cope the best with absences, injuries, work commitments etc

Anyway, we at TBCFC have some cricket matches now to think about first!

posticon Re: 2005/06 Predictions

absolutely impossible to predict in reality.

Also, one does not want to give too big a psychological boost to an opponent by writing them off.

roughly, i believe the division will shape up like this:-

In the likely absence of Neil P i think Christchurch may struggle (despite hammering us twice last year!) and will be in a group of 4 including Rock, Sanctuary and Elim that may struggle.

The other 6 appear inseperable. On their day each of them is capable of beating the other. As Chappelle observes you need some luck with availability and the rub of the green. Perhaps at Xmas we will know the likely contenders.

Whatever happens, it's certainly more fun than the old days when St Matts and Hanham didn't give anyone else a chance.

Also, can we all please enter the GFA cup. We have got to win it next year!

Re: 2005/06 Predictions

It does have to be said that the standard of football has gone up as the years go by.

Unforunatly even though I am not the oldest of people I have been playing in this league since 1996, and have seen St Matts in their glory days, and they were good, and hanham were very physical and used that to good effect, but I still maintain that the standard of football is better now than ever before.

Especially next season - its good to see teams with different styles and formations playing, with a few good characters in the various teams who add the banter and the hype.

I agree with Jim though, the GFA is a must for all. There are some seriously rubbish teams in the GFA last time I played, and without being too arrogant any of the top 6 teams should win it!!

Re: 2005/06 Predictions

1: Saltford
2: Thornbury
3: Elim
4: BSXI
5: Pip n Jay
6: BUCU
7: Widcome
8: Christchurch
9: Rock
10:The Sanctuary

Elim are my bet for the surprise package of the year - their end of season form was up there with the best. BSXI will struggle in the mid season when the pitches are wet, as will BUCU who are also losing 6+ regular players. Saltford are the best team by a mile - beating the baps in the final with 10 men proves a point. I think Pip n Jay will have a very good year, but haven't seen them play.

As for relegation: The sanctuary are as certain to go down as West Brom were. The Rock might struggle as everyones attack gets better and they cannot 'buy a goal'. Christchurch will find the faster football tough and will probably ship too many goals, and widcome dont have the consistancy to make an impact on the league - but both WW and CC will stay up.

Re: 2005/06 Predictions

Good to see that everyone is writing The Sanctuary off so early, a more consistent team every week and we'll be up there challenging - can't see us conceeding nearly so many goals next year, a more settled defence and a keeper with a first seasons experience behind him should help.

Mark Young - Best Newcomer 2004/2005 (The Sanctuary), not bad after 15+ years in the BCFA

Re: 2005/06 Predictions

I'll right off Santuary as well, sorry Dan. But since we beat you 10 - 0, results speak themselves. CC will strugle so will Rock. Out of the rest mmmm very hard to pic.

Playing in a faster league both promted clubs from the 2nd Div may find it hard late in the season.
However I think this will be the hardest season in a long time. Even tho I have only played since 96,
Looking forward to the closed season, chillin out up on the downs for a kick about or two.
Very hard to Win two league titles on the trot but I'll be giving it my loudest shout.
