Fantasy League 07/08

The FA Premier League competition is due to be launched at some point today. Link is below. I'm assuming we're going to set up another fantasy league like last year?

I still don't like the fact that you only get half a players increase in value, but take the full loss. Apart from that, I'd got used to the game by the end of the season, and quite enjoyed it. Also, the rumour is that our work fantasy league will be based on this game this year rather than the Telegraph as in previous years, so I may have to take it seriously!!

You have to pick players who play in the Prem, and they score you points according to their real life performances. emoticon

Seriously though, you pick a squad of 15 players (2xGK, 5xDF, 5xMF and 3xST). You have a budget of 100. Last year, Henry was the most expensive player at about 14. You pick a starting 11 each week, who then score you points. If any of your starting 11 don't play, then your subs will come in and score you points according to the order you put them in (apart from GK who is automatically subbed in if your starting GK doesn't play). You can change your formation weekly. I think you can play 3-5-2, 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 3-4-3. Not sure if you could do 2-5-3. That would be a bit silly as it's not a realistic formation so hopefully not.

Each gameweek, you can do one transfer for free (i.e. transfer out a player from your squad and bring in a completely new player - you can move players on and off your subs bench as much as you like). If you want to do more transfers you can, but it'll cost you 4 points for each extra transfer (e.g. 3 transfers in one gameweek would cost you 8 points). You do however get one wildcard. If you play that, you can make as many transfers as you want without losing any points in that gameweek. Also, players increase and decrease in value throughout the season according to the number of people tansferring them in and out, so a bargain cheap player won't stay cheap for too long.

You only score points for Premier League games. GKs and DFs get points for clean sheets. MFs also get one point for a clean sheet. Players get 2 or 3 points for starting I think, and lose 1 point for each goal conceded. I think they award the last player to touch the ball before a goal is scored an assist which I think is 3 points (a bit naff in my view, as a player who plays a 5 yard pass to someone on the edge of their area, who then runs the entire length of the pitch and scores will get 3 points for basically doing nothing). Points for goals, which I think might be 3 for a ST, 4 for a MF and 5 for a DF. They also award 1, 2 and 3 points for the best 3 players on the pitch in each game. Not sure how they work this out.

Lastly, you have to select a captain each week who scores double points (or loses double should you be unlucky). You don't get to pick a vice-captain though so be sure your captain is going to play!! Caught me out a couple of times last season.

IMO opinion, if I compared it to the Telegraph game, I would say the following:

- More to do on a weekly basis, so more time consuming or more involvement for you depending on how you look at it.
- Harder to pick a team/squad you're happy with, so more challenging.
- Good that player values change, but annoyingly, if you sell a player who has increased in value, you only get half of his increase, but take the full loss if he's lost value.
- Squad system means you don't lose out if a player is injured and you weren't aware of it.
- Better than Telegraph in that FA Cup points don't count, but worse with their assist points.

Re: Fantasy League 07/08

hmmm, interesting. i've never played one where you have to think about it each week. i usually get bored of them half way through a season so that's pretty good for me i reckon. do we do it intra-league or must i compete with the general public?

We'll do the former. You have no choice but to do the latter.
