Re: Youngest starting eleven player
I've played every match for BUCU in the last 2 years and im only just 21 now. There's always a couple of 18yos that play regually for us. I dunno if that counts?
I'm sure we have the youngest average age though... even younger than Man Utd (at 23.5) on wednesday.

Re: Youngest starting eleven player
We have a few 16 year olds play last year. Guys come on..18 and up is not young anymore..dont kid yourself!!
Plus no kid under the age of 16 is not allowed to play in theory, I started playing in Goal and CB for BCF St pauls when I was 15 (naughty!), then onto TBCFC at 16.

Re: Youngest starting eleven player
Its a pain that the rule is 16, because we have got some real talent coming through and the next year or two, you will see some very good players!
However, like Tom, I started playing in this league when I was 13 for the old Saltford team. However the rules on the age were not in place then.
It certainly toughens you up for playing at a higher level!!!

Re: Youngest starting eleven player
I say play for a Non christian league is better for you when your younger because it is phyisicaly tougher abd you gain a back bone. I like this league beause after the game relationships are made and kepted. However the myth that Christians leagues are tougher then normal leagues are spoken by "5 a side players" and "non experianced football talkers" The Standard in this league has risen 10 fold over the years and this season should be the most competative yet.

Re: Youngest starting eleven player
I totally agree with that statment about this season being competitive, but is'nt football the same level of toughness around the country it just depend on the players rather than the league. age 12 i played with 18 year old and that how i developed toughness.

Re: Youngest starting eleven player
I agree letting younger players participate with older groups of players can really bring them up a feww pegs their standard becomes alot better.
Obviously they will have to develop strength along with the new things they learn but that happens when they get older!
I'm 19 and have been playing in the church league since i was 16 and this is my fourth season I have learned alot more about the game and playing with some great players (Joe Lee, Mo, Dan Hamer, Nick papuka) has helped my game! Starting younger I feel gives you the edge over players who may be older than you but do not have the experience you have growing up in mens football!!

"However, like Tom, I started playing in this league when I was 13 for the old Saltford team. However the rules on the age were not in place then."
Phil - I think you'll find that the min age of 16 has always been in place (and yes even when you played for the old Saltford team). As I remember there were some pretty tasty games between Saltford & Corsham Priory back in the day - Saltford having a 13 year old playing was always a bone of contention (from our perspective anyway). Every time a tackle went in there would be howls of protest ie "steady on he's only 13!"
The min 16 age restriction is there for a very good reason. No matter how good or quick a young player is, pitting him against a 16st CB could potentially have disasterous consequences.... for both players!
There are some fellowships with large youth groups, perhaps a game against some of those is more appropriate for U16s...? Rich
