BCFA Cup Preliminary Round Results

Widcombe Cor. 0-6 Counterslip
despite the scoreline the first half was a fairly close affair with the only goal coming early on courtesy of a close range finish from John Spring.
Widcombes lack of match practice showed in the 2nd half as The 'Slip ran away with it scoring 5 2nd half goals. The highlight was Steve Birtles first ever goal for the 'Slip. A Convincing win but much tougher tests will follow.

Nath scored! I'll bet there'll be a few bottles of Smirnoff Ice being downed by the Knowle West Posse this afternoon. Congratulations Nath, you're a latter day Kenny Dalgleish.

Dan Did play, I think he was one of the 3 nominations for man of the match. Ben Sinclair took the honours though.

I didn't play. The reason for this was that I had lost some studs from my boots. I had aquired some replacements but istanbul (incorrectly) informed me that they were in fact Rugby studs. Given that the ref for the game was the infamously fussy Chris Day, I didn't want to risk getting into an arguement with him as he makes a point of checking all players studs before the game. So I was certain he would object. So I chose to have an additional weeks rest.

They were preety mean looking studs! Why didn't yout try to come on? The ref didn't check Petes boots when he came on.

Dan Flynn – good left foot, gives the simple pass and doesn’t dwell on it either which is what you need for that position.

Re: BCFA Cup Preliminary Round Results

Very enjoyable game of football against a very friendly and pleasant Widcombe team.

The ref did spoil it a little. You cannot say anything to him without him having a go. I literally mean anything!

There was one incident when a Widcombe player wasn't happy with something so he spoke to our captain about it, which I think is the right thing to do. The ref then called him over to warn him, and I quote, 'Do not even think that you can bring this game into your own hands, do not say anything to him'.

He makes the right decisions (most of the time) but is very self-righteous and power seeking.

Back to the football.

Could have been more than 6. Kirby had a shot in the first half which would have failed to reach the goal line. Nathan put over an easy header. Spring found space with the last man on the edge of the box, I came runing beside him into acres because there was no one about screaming for him to pass to me, yet he shot from edge of area and put it miles wide. Paul had a run into the box and on a very very acute angle decided to put it wide of the far post instead of squaring it to the unmarked Spring.

We will need to be less selfish when we face tougher games.

Re: BCFA Cup Preliminary Round Results

It was also financially costly for us as we must have lost about 3 footballs into the trees/bushes and Dogs home situated no more than 10 yards from the pitch. Lets hope we don't play there again or we will end up going into administration. emoticon

Re: BCFA Cup Preliminary Round Results

or you could teach your defenders that if they're only five yards from the touchline they don't have to hammer it 40 yards off the pitch !
