Rael, what do you think of Athletico Madrid's chances this year? They have done well so far after bringing in some quality after losing Torres. Forlan has already proven himself in La Liga, Luis Garcia is doing well prob due to the fact he's back in his homeland, Reyes is a solid signing and they've got some small young guy up front who's scoring a few, his name escapes me, but he's being compared to Romario. I reckon they could do well in UEFA cup too, prob my 2nd favourites behind Bayern.

yeh, they've bought well with the torres money. i think the torres move will probably turn out to be good for both atletico and him in the end.

like you said, as strange as it may seem, forlan is a top forward in la liga, and in aguero (the one you were thinking of!) alongside him, they have the second top scorer and probably second best player on current form in la liga behind messi.

reyes, luis garcia and simao are all great options, and just as important is getting maxi rodriguez back fit, a brilliant winger on his day

raul garcia is another great young player they signed this summer, and would be in the spain squad if it wasnt for the fact spain have the best set of midfielders in world football (xavi, alonso, fabregas and iniesta in centre mid alone - england would kill for one of them emoticon )

they were already pretty strong at the back with seitaridis, pablo, perea and pernia, and i think they can genuinely challenge for top 4 this year.

i actually think la liga could be a 3 or 4 horse race this season;

madrid are winning without playing well (here's a stat for you, in the last 3 seasons, which keeper has faced the most shots per game every year? casillas)

barca are brilliant one week (atletico, zaragoza) and awful the next (villareal, santander)

valencia kept all their best players without really adding much but should challenge,

sevilla can be excused a slow start after the heartbreak of what happened with puerta,

and atletico will challenge as well as villareal, who have guiseppe rossi and robert pires on top form, and are doing superbly whilst still refusing to play one of the most gifted players in world football (riquelme)

all in all i think it's shaping up for a belter of a season, anyone in the top half could beat the big boys on their day, much in the same way as the premiership

good shout on the uefa cup as well, i think atletico are the 2nd best side in it after bayern, who are fantastic at the minute,

i've only seen limited bundesliga highlights so far this season, but by all accounts ribery has been breathtaking this season (opposition managers are giving post match interviews saying it's an honour just to have him in the league emoticon)

they also have toni and klose who have 8 goals each in bayerns 10 games so far this season, that depsite both missing a couple of games through injury, they are just goalscoring machines!

anyway that's enough football chat for now, i'm gonna go to bed, or i might play footy manager, i'm bayern by the way, toni has 28 in 21 games

I knew there was another midfielder that I was thinking of - Simao! Plus Maxi Rodriquez, if they can get out of him what he did in the world cup then he'll do well. You summed up all the teams how I see it and yes they could all challenge this year.

Don't forget Podolski is at Munich too! They have to be the best team ever not to be in champs league but in UEFA!

La Liga will look like this come the end of the season-

Barca
R.Madrid
Valencia
Athletico
Sevilla
Villareal

but I don't reckon more than 10 points will separate them all.

And as for AC Milan, they cannot buy a home win!! Watched first half of Empoli game on sunday which they eventually lost 1-0 emoticon and they missed Kaka bigtime. They rested him 'cos of the 2 Brazil games he played in, but they are a different team when he's in it. They need a fresh pair of legs up front too. Inzaghi is too old, Gilardino is average and Ronaldo is injury prone and clearly way past his best. And as for their goalie...

Denmarks PEDIGREE was truly tested, during some HAIRY moments in the game, Spain, who recently have proved they like to WINALOT, had them under their COLLAR for the majority of the game. Denmark left it late to RETRIEVER the situation, so Spain ended up PINSCHER the points.

These can only get worse.

Although obviously you wouldn't miss your commitment to the youth group for a one-off game of football anyway....
