I can see why he dived, judging from his miss on wednesday!

How the hell does that link?!?!

Simple, because he can't guarantee hitting the target from 3 yards he realises a penalty is far more of a guaranteed goal than him shooting. Come on Dan, keep up.

A little bit harsh on Stevie G IMO. I thought it was a blatant penalty, and all the experts I've heard talking about it have agreed. With regard to him changing the ref's mind, I don't think we can be certain that the ref was only going to book Hibbert. He was clearly the last man, and it looked to me like the ref brought out his notebook, which had the yellow card in with it. In any case, you can't blame Gerrard if the ref changes his mind. It's weak refereeing surely?

We were incredibly lucky on Saturday. Kuyt should definitely have gone, and Everton should definitely have had a penalty at the end for Carragher's foul on Lescott. They had a pretty good case for one earlier too. All that matters is we got the three points though. emoticon

Err, yes you can. He shouldn't have been doing it in the first place.

BTW, I haven't seen any of these incidents I have been commenting on.

I've heard all the 'expert' opinions as well , they either just beleive you're entitled to go down under any pressure or they are afraid of upsetting the England vice captain and Rafa, Gerrard obviously has influence off the pitch as well as on it. It was a dive, your left leg does not naturally give way like that, Gerrards dives remind me of Shearers a little, nobody noticed his dives because he didn't flail his arms in the air and probably more importantly because he was English.

Everton were completely robbed by the ref on saturday. To be fair i thought it was a foul on gerrard, and if it was then the only outcome was a red for hibbert. I think the ref pretty much got every major decision wrong after that (ive said this before emoticon )! Dont know how kuyt wasnt sent off, he was atleast 3 feet off the ground, dont know how that isnt dangerous! And lescott definately should have had a pen.

Also thought phil neville was very unlucky! emoticon

Re: Premiership thread

Ok, Gooner I said I'd be honest so here goes.

I've watched all the incidents over and over.

1) First penalty decision - correct. Hibbert pulled his shirt and then ankles were slightly clipped and at the pace they were going any touch can be enough to knock you over. If it had been at the other end then I wouldn't have had any complaints.

2) The ref producing the red card - correct. Did Gerrard influence him - maybe. Did the ref accidently get the yellow out first - maybe but he did get red after Gerrard said something. Gerrard obvioulsy saw the yellow and being stunned that he wasn't going to be off reacted as if to say - 'How can you give a yellow for that!?' This shouldn't change a refs decision so you should blame the ref not Stevie G.

3) Kuyt's challenge - If that is not a dangerous tackle then what is! He said he didn't want to touch Neville - maybe not but still was very dangerous and could have seriously injured Neville - actually, well done Dirk! Definate red and if that had been other way round I would have felt angry that it wasn't.

4) Everton penalty claims - both looked like pens. Finnan blatently had his arms around Lescott - would have been a free kick outside the box. With Carra, from the tv replay you can only see his right hand which isn't holding onto Lescott that much and wouldn't have been enough to bring him down that heavily. We couldn't see his left hand and neither could the ref 'cos it was goal side, so you couldn't see a pull, just them both going to ground very heavily. Again, if it had been the other end I would have been very angry.

5) Neville's sending off - wrong emoticon

He was only doing what almost every player does every week. Who can hold their hand up and honestly say they've never told the ref he's made the wrong decision?
