Re: Premiership thread
His tactics were stupidly negative. To get one point against the worst team in the premiership in a season is a complete joke - going away to Reading, Derby etc looking for draws was mental. but then again success isn't particularly built overnight.. unless you're talking about Chelsea with what Jose did with them.

Newcastle fans need to wake up and smell the coffee though - you are not a big club, you haven't won a trophy for 50 odd years and all the Newcastle fans do is go on about how they should have won one by now - just because you have a big stadium and large fanbase does not mean that you are a big club, it's based on honours built up over the years. Forest are a bigger club than Newcastle. FACT.

Re: Premiership thread
Rael, depends what your definition of big is. Fanbase v Trophies. Dan likes to cling on (for at least another 2-3 years) on the Trophies link as that makes Liverpool the biggest club.
But Newcastle fans are more deluded than Liverpool fans. Hearing the Geordies this morning saying Harry Redknapp isn't a big enough name, he couldn't handle the pressure, we wan Mourinho. Get a life, you aren't a top 4 club, you are ranked alongside Aston Villa, Man City and Everton at best. Get over yourselves !!!

Take that as a compliment
But seriously, we aren't a good club, we aren't a succesful club like Dan said forest are.. but it depends how you define "big". As Newcastle have plenty of fans, a big stadium with plenty of funds so can be called a big club, just not a very good one... bar a succesful spell under Keegan and then Sir Bobby. It's all down to how you define big though.

Also down to how you define successful. Under Keegan you won promotion, and that was it. So, you're successful by Championship standards.
Guess you could include qualification for Champions league. And didn't you win the intertoto?

Yeah, that was under Roeder. Qualification for champins league and beating teams such as Juventus along the way is succesful, for our standards anyway!

That might be all they won, but they did finish 2nd in the Prem, which I would class as successful for Newcastle (despite them blowing a big lead). Feel sorry for Sam as he needed a lot more time to get things sorted there, which I'm sure he would have done given time. I don't think Ashley wanted him in charge, but as he'd only just been appointed, had to give him a chance. Fortunately from his point of view, the fans started getting fed up with him pretty quickly so he can get rid without any problems (bar the £20m odd that it will reportedly cost them).
Newcastle are big in terms of fan base, but small in terms of success. I think they should be a top 6 team with the money they can generate, but will struggle to get much higher for a few years. No way will Mourinho take the job. If Newcastle fans seriously think they have a chance of landing him.....I don't know how to finish that sentence.
