They might be selling to DIC soon though. According to Jonathan Legard on Radio 5 this morning, the deal will happen, it's just a question of when and the terms. Fingers crossed....

Not so sure why a Dubai based company is seen as such a great alternative myself.

Proven track record of investing money to make themselves the best in any given sport. Can't do worse than the gobby yanks.

Re: Premiership thread
Was just reading about the criticism Avram Grant has been receiving about his squad rotation policy and poor substitutions, and it all sounded a bit familar. It begs the question how far actually have Chelsea come since Claudio Ranieri was sacked 4 years ago.
Back then, Ranieri was labelled the Tinkerman or something and his tactics and team selection were criticised. However they still managed to reach the semi-final of the Champions League, but got rid of him for a "world class manager" to bring success to the club.
Enter Mourinho who spent hundred's of million's of Abramovich's cash, but whilst being successful domestically could never achieve the biggest aim of CL success. In fact, they never did any better than Ranieri.
Now it appears Chelsea have gone full circle and are back to the exact same position they were in 4 years ago with a "good" manager who tinkers with the team too much.
If I was Abramovich I would be a bit p***ed off on receiving no return on the massive investment, and on the face of it (bar a few domestic titles) not having moved forward as a club.

Don't agree with you there Baldone, winning domestic titles 'is' success and I think most people in football (bar Liverpool fans) would say it is the biggest trophy to win.
I don't think Ambramovich will be annoyed with lack of achievement because they have won quite a few cups over the years, more the problem for him is the way they play football, he wants to be entertained and has not been under Mourinho or Grant....
...Keegan should be available soon, pair him up with Ossie Ardiles and they'll be playing some great stuff!!

I guess it depends on how clubs measure success - I always get the impression that the main aim for Chelsea is to win the Champions League, and has been for a while.
Whereas Liverpool who have won the Champions League recently, they seem to put domestic honours as a higher priority than the CL.

Wouldn't you agree though? Nathan, istanbul etc - which would you prefer to win this season: Premiership or Champions League?
