Proven track record of investing money to make themselves the best in any given sport. Can't do worse than the gobby yanks.

Plus they are actually Liverpool fans.

Don't agree with you there Baldone, winning domestic titles 'is' success and I think most people in football (bar Liverpool fans) would say it is the biggest trophy to win.

Incorrect, the prem is the one all Liverpool fans want.

Wouldn't you agree though? Nathan, istanbul etc - which would you prefer to win this season: Premiership or Champions League?

Before 2005, the CL and Prem had the same level of priority for me but ever since we won the CL, the Prem has been the priority for al Liverpol fans.

Unless we win the CL this year.

But Liverpool without CL money won't be any worse than Liverpool with CL money - £46m spent in the summer and not a lot to show for it. Granted, they bought Torres, who was supposed to be the missing ingredient required to win the Premiership. It turns out that he is actually the one stopping them from being in a battle for mid-table mediocrity with the likes of Spurs, West Ham and Middlesbrough...

I don't see Liverpool mounting a realistic challenge for the title any time soon, with or without CL money.

We might have spent £46m, but it was less than United spent (£51m), so not surprising that we're further behind them. It's still been a disappointing season, but I think Babel will be stronger next year for one. I also think the number of injuries we've had in defence is a big reason for us struggling (Agger is finally playing for the reserves tonight).

Plus, don't forget that we've actually only lost 3 Premiership games this season - one less than United and the same as Chelsea. The problem has been that we've drawn so many (11 compared to United's 4 and Chelsea's 7). Our away form is also much better than it has been in recent seasons. I actually honestly believe we're closer than people think we are. It's not a huge step up to turn some of those draws into victories. If we can spend again this summer, we could be close to the others next year, and who knows how far we could go? After all, Arsenal finished last season in 4th on the same number of points as us, yet are challenging for the title this season.

You may say I'm dreaming, and I might well be, but I think you have the right to think complete rubbish about your own team. emoticon

Agreed.

Agre with this (although not about Tottenham being a mid-table team emoticon ) I think the top 3 have got further away, and Liverpool are now in a group with Everton, Villa, Spurs & Pompey who will all be challenging for 4th spot next season (think Man city are over achieving this season) and teams no longer fear going to Anfield like the used to. Without Gerrard & Torres, Liverpool would be mid table. There are no longer a 'top 4' in the premier league with a chasing group, its a 'top 3' with a chasing group

But there is a top 4 because every season for a while now (bar 2005) it has been the same teams in the top 4!

Everton still have to play Chelsea at home and Arsenal away. Plus Pompey and Villa at home.

The Merseyside derby at Anfield is massive, whoever wins that, I think will come 4th.

Liverpool play their game in hand on weds.

I can't help being a little sceptical about this. They might well be, but half of me thinks they've probably never really supported an English team, but because they're thinking of buying, they circulated a story saying they were fans to make true fans keen on them.
