I think its that Liverpool really only have two outlets for goals - gerrard and Torres whereas Man U, Chelski and Arsenal have at least 3-4 and sometimes more.
Was having the same debate with my 14yr old bro who supports United and it reminded me of when you wrote this, and I have to say it's annoying me. My bro was saying that if you took Torres and Gerrard out of Liverpool who would score their goals? Well I replied by saying if you took Ronaldo and Tevez out of United who would score their goals?
I've got some stats which prove that it would be just as harmful (if not slightly more) to United as it would Liverpool.
Liv have scored 50 goals in the league whereas United have scored 58.
Torres and Gerrard have scored 27/50 - 54%
Ronaldo and Tevez have scored 32/58 - 55%
If you look at who else there is that has scored goals (2 or more) -
Liv - 6 players
Utd - 5 players
So to claim United would have more options than Liverpool if you took out the 2 top scorers, is frankly rubbish.
In all competitions -
Torres and Gerrard have scored 42/93 - 45%
Ronaldo and Tevez have scored 45/83 - 54%
Again, proves your argument wrong.

Re: Premiership thread
Dan, I think its more that with Liverpool Torres and Gerrad create and score the goals, whereas United have more options to create. If Ronaldo or Tevez aren't there the likes of Rooney, Saha, Scholes, Nani will score the chances created. Liverpool in my opinion don't have that luxury.

Re: Premiership thread
Good stat Dan. Can't argue with those.
However, one point I would throw in is that you're looking at totals but Liverpool's problem isn't scoring 4 against West Ham its not scoring 1 against Birmingham, Reading etc.
Subjectively, I get the impression that Man U have a few more players who pop up with the goals in the 1-0 wins. Liverpool rely heavily on those two scoring in key games?

But this season only Rooney (8) and Saha (5) have scored more than 2 league goals (apart from Ronaldo and Tevez obviously). Scholes has only scored 1 - he's been injured though hasn't he?
Whereas at Liverpool 4 players have scored more than 2 league goals (Babel (4), Benayoun (3), Kuyt (3) and Voronin (3)).
Granted that Saha has been injured also but so has Voronin and Alonso who has 2 goals.
So what you say above is wrong according to the stats!

Re: Premiership thread
You misunderstand me Dan. If Tevez and Ronaldo weren't scoring them, then there is a better chance at Utd that someone else would, ie the back up players. Don't think that is the case at Liverpool.

Re: Premiership thread
Liverpool dont even deserve to be mentioned in the same topic as Utd on the premiership thread.
When Liverpool/Everton/Spurs/Villa break into they Big 3 then I may be happy to discuss Liverpool.
And Liverpool are definately over-reliant on Stevie Me.

I reckon Torres will be the main man next season. Gerrard will eventually become manager. In the long run, L'pool will always be a 1-man-team. Maybe that's why Dan never passes - he wants to pretend he's playing for L'pool.
