Reaching crunch time at Roland Garros. Nadal was playing Almagro today. This is the guy that Murray lost to in 4 sets. Most people felt Murray had given a decent account of himself as Almagro is a clay court specialist. Today's score? 6-1 6-1 6-1 to Nadal. Next up for him is Djokovic. He lost to Nadal in the semis last year, but is much improved this year. Despite that, it's hard to see him doing any better than taking a set off Nadal, who must be a great shout to win the tournament without dropping a set.

In the women's, my tip Ivanovic had a pretty straightforward win to make the semis.

Can't see Nadal losing to be honest, he'll be champion again. Considering he's won the last 3 French Opens, why is he seeded number 2?

Yep you picked well with Ivanovic but lets not forget you said Mauresmo would be a good outside bet emoticon

The 2 I picked are still there emoticon

Yeah, that's true. I discovered the day after that she's never got past the QFs at Roland Garros before. Had I known that, I wouldn't have made that prediction.

As far as the seedings go, I believe it's only Wimbledon that mess around with them. All the other Grand Slam tournaments just take the world rankings as their seedings. It was also Wimbledon's fault that we now have 32 seeds rather than 16. Can't remember the exact reasons, but it was something to do with them wanting to seed someone, but not being able to justify putting them in the top 16.

Bet you haven't played 26 games there though. emoticon

Incidentally, as a random piece of trivia, whilst in Paris with my family when I was younger, we went to see Roland Garros, and were surprised to see that one of the roads around it is called Avenue Gordon Bennett. Weird. emoticon

Crazy game in the women's quarters today. Safina (conqueror of Sharapova in the last round) lost the first set 6-4 to Dementieva. She was then 5-2 down in the second set. Safina broke back, but Dementieva had a match point at 5-4. Safina saved it, won the set on a tie break and then stormed the final set 6-0!!

Federer had a brief scare losing the first set to Gonzalez before winning in 4. He now plays Ferrer or Monfils in his semi, which looks an easier game than Nadal has. Ferrer could give him a real test though as a clay courter. Not sure if Monfils is a clay courter or not, but he's unseeded, so you'd fancy Fed to win without too much trouble.

Monfils doesn't seem to have a favoured surface but he does have home advantage, I'd expect Ferrer to beat him though.

Surely it's a Fed/Nadal final, Fed will look threatening, win the first set and then Nadal will show his superior strength and romp home in 4.
