Re: Turpin's Euro 2008 Betting Thread

Get off my thread boys!

Fordy, save your money and back Portugal.

Right, I'm starting with a 200 point bank. The more points bet, the more confident I am. Just focusing on Groups A and B today because they're playing over the weekend.

My first bet is on Portugal and Czech Republic to qualify from their group. 20 points at 2/1 with Ladbrokes.
 - Czech Republic finished above Germany in qualifying and although they will be missing Rosicky, they should comfortably have enough to beat Switzerland and Turkey. Portugal are my favourites to win the tournament, so they should qualify comfortably.

My second bet is on Austria to finish bottom of their group. 20 points at 8/11 with Paddy Power. The odds aren't great but they are ranked as the 11th worst European team and even home advantage shouldn't be enough to take any points from Germany, Croatia and Poland.

My third bet is for Austria to finish the tournament with 0 points. 10 points at 5/1 with Skybet. Same reasons as above but it is as short as 5/2 with other firms, it's great value.

My final bet for today is also in Group B - Germany and Croatia to qualify. 30 points at 5/6 with Stan James and Sportingbet. Poland aren't a bad side but these two sides should comfortably qualify ahead of them. We all know about Croatia, they're missing Eduardo but Petric is an able substitute and Modric should have a big influence in the middle. Germany are also potential winners.

Austria won't. I think France will be strong and I also think Portugal will be. I'm not willing to bet on anyone to win the tournament or who will win the golden boot. That's a mugs game emoticon

Portugal to beat Turkey 50 points at 4/5 with Boylesports. Portugal have the best player in the world at present, a tight defence and Turkey only qualified from a weak qualifying group in the last minute.

The Switzerland/Czech Republic game should be a lot closer. I wouldn't be confident selecting any outcome in that game.

130 points staked out of 200.
