Well I watched Tony 'die' the other day in season 5, and it really looks like he's dead. He loses consciousness in Jack's arms and then a minute or so later the doctors are covering his head with a jacket. Surely they would have checked if he was still alive before pronouncing him dead!

Nobody is ever Dead in these programmes, they always find a way to bring them back like they did with Sara in PB.
