Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

Any thoughts after the weekends action.

Got to admit after 3 heavy defeats (2 goals scored 25 conceded)it's nice to win a game as I almost forgot what it was like. For anyone who runs a team you've got to admit it's easier to manage when your winning games, i've been really struggling of late to lift the lads.

Anyway after saturdays games:
Sanctuary and Rock continue to stamp their authority on the league both with 100% records, although Rock seem to be winning tight games as where Sanctuary a thumping teams.

BS4 still unbeaten and Chappell on 3 goals not something many would have predicted but they are flying at the momement and will be tough opposition for us this saturday.

Widcombe although they lost their unbeaten record to us on Saturday are a well organised team and should be in the mix.

SAS after thumping a weak Hillfields side have failed to register a win after two draws but will felt hard done by after leading both games, however they should pick it up soon.

Welton who face SAS this saturday are still unbeaten but don't seem to have clicked yet maybe this saturday it will.

Hayhill have had an indifferent start but 4 points from 4 isn't all that bad.

Israel have a win under their belts but they do seem to struggle on getting 11 men together which may well cost them.

Hillfields have a win now and will hope to push on, however their -15 goal difference may ultimately cost them a high place this season.

C3 Are a good team but only 1 point from 3 isn't a great start but that is against probably the best three teams in the league in Sanctuary rock and SAS.

Kensington - Registered their first ever point on saturday and will hope to push on from there.

Pistols - Seems injuries are hitting them at the moment but they should pick up some points.

Gordano - Have surprised me, because although they have lost 3 in 4 they have been tight losing by one goal to BS4 and Widcombe seems they are improving and should get a few surprise results.

Think it is important to note that Rock Sanctuary SAS Welton BS4 are all unbeaten so far.

1 The Sanctuary 12
2 Rock Crusaders 9
3 BS4 8
4 Widcombe Corinthians 7
5 SAS United 5
6 Welton Rangers 5
7 Hayhill 4
8 Israel 3
9 Hilfields Park Baptist 3
10 C3 1
11 Kensington Baptist 1
12 Bristol Pistols 1
13 Gordano Valley Church Rovers 1

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

I know teams have only played a couple of games but it gives you some sort of an idea on how the season might plan out. But i'm going to have a go at predicting the league table:-

1st Welton Rangers
2nd Hillfields
3rd CCC
4th Rock
5th The Sanctuary
6th SAS
7th Kensington
8th Israel
9th Widcombe
10th Hayhill
11th BS4
12th Gordano
13th Bristol Pistols

Would now like to change this quite a bit...

1st Rock
2nd The Sanctuary
3rd Hillfields
4th SAS
5th CCC
6th Welton Rangers
7th BS4
8th Widcombe
9th Kensington
10th Israel
11th Hayhill
12th Bristol Pistols
13th Gordano

Shocking performance today...

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

There were only two matches this sat but both results could prove significant in the Division 2 shake up.

The first game SAS v Welton both teams started sat with 5 points each from 3 games which I think they would have been disappointed with and perhaps other teams would be shocked by. SAS have been talked up over the past two season as big favourites mainly from Div one teams and Welton promoted two years ago were expected to take the experience of Div 1 and their promotion season and push hard for promotion however having said that both teams started the day unbeaten. However SAS won 4-0 over Welton a shock score line but everyone knows what SAS are capable of. The win puts SAS into third and up where they expect to be and drops Welton to 7th.

Hillfields faced an unbeaten BS4 in Knowle and with Hillfields fragile confidence slightly boosted by a win last week Hillfields would not have opted to play a rejuvenated BS4 side. However BS4 seemed depleted (as were Hillfields) and a clash of heads didn’t help their cause. Hillfields probably dominated the game in terms of possession but bar the two goals did very little to worry the BS4 keeper. BS4 have a bunch of injuries at the moment but will continue to pick up points but whether they can stay in the top four is another question. Hillfields after probably the worst start from any team in History (other than spurs) have manage to put the their four game battering behind them and secured back to back wins. Apart from The Sanctuary and Rock who are setting the standard, Hillfields will be please to see the other teams dropping points. To move from bottom (13th) to 6th in 2 games is a great achievement they now need to string some good results together and keep in distance of the top two. After SAS battered them in the first game Hillfields will be please they are only 2 points behind them as they are a top team. Welton will need to start picking up points soon if they are to mount an assault on the top half, however they will have to wait till next week as no fixtures this sat for them.

Sanctuary – No game this week but should stay top.
Rock – Tough game against SAS this week which may well give us an idea on who may go on to dominate the league Rock will be buoyed by a win v sanctuary in the cup.
SAS – As above, perhaps a draw may be a good result.
BS4 – Tough one against Hayhill this week but if they can get some players back they’ve got a chance. Think midtable finish will be prove a good season.
Widcombe – Will hope to get back to winning ways but C3 will prove a stern test. Still see them as a top side tho’ who’ll be near the top.
Hillfields – Will hope to build on back to back wins v pistols this week but will be a tough game for them. If Hillfields can string some results together they know they are good enough to be up there.
Welton – up and down season if they can pull it together they have the talent to push at the top.
Hayhill – Third last year, may struggle to fulfil that again but if they can get a constant side out they will trouble sides. Mid table.
Israel – Will likely win as many as they lose seem to have a small squad but do have good talent. Mid table finish.
C3 – Expect them to move up the table quickly have had though games against the top three but are much better than the table suggests will push for promotion by the end of the season.
Kensington – My dark horses for promotion, not firing on all cylinders yet but if they can get some results under their belts they should move up the table.
Pistols – Injuries have effected them but once Bruce is back can expect them to get some results.
Gordano – Seem much harder to beat this year and reckon they’ll nick some points off of teams but will struggle for wins.

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

Some very interesting results this saturday, some unexpected at least in my eyes.

Firstly the big win was in the big game, SAS v Rock, didn't see SAS getting more than a point here, not because they are poor we all know their potential but because rock had a 100% record this season and seemed to have a winning formula. Heard Rock missed some chances but also that SAS were good and 2-0 is an impressive win which blows the race at the top wide open. The next shock result for me was BS4, 8 points from 5 is great but when we played them las week they were really struggling for players and didn't really bother us too much in front of goal but all credit to them a great win which puts them in the top three and no signs yet of the budging. The other interesting scoreline was Widcombe beating C3 3-1 Widcombe are a good side but I am still waiting for the C3 of last year to turn up, however it wasn't this week and 1 point from 4 for c3 has shock me. Other score were Israel winning at Gordano and Hillfields winning well at Pistols. That was Hillfields third win in a row the first time they have managed that in the league and almost wipes out our -16 goal difference after two games. Only Welton and c3 playing this week and I haven't clue how that will go.

Winners have to be Sanctuary who still have 100% record and are top without even playing. SAS have set a marker now, their next game is against the Sanctuary and that will be a very interesting game which may decide who could go on a dominate the league. BS4 are continuing to impress I am not 100% confident they are strong enough to go up but they are doing enough to stay near the top and bother a few teams. Widcombe haven't exactly set the league alight but they are on 10 points after 5 not the worse of starts they will stay in the mix, Rock have slipped this week but surely have enough experience to keep up their challenge for promotion. Hillfields are getting back to winning ways but their poor start means they have very little margin for error if they want to go up. Israel think they will win a few games but likely lose as many due to personnel problems. Hayhill not the same team as last year but they should be at least mid table. C3 and Welton under achieving at the moment as are kensington although they are more of a unknown expect them to all to be higher up. Gordano and Pistols may end up on similar points.

Each week is becoming interesting and only a few games in.

Thanks for the encouraging notes Crofty, I see Hillfields are getting back to what we are used to seeing. You are still my tip to go up this season!

I'm looking forward to our return match against you guys as we should have more personnel back by then so should be able to give you more of a game.

Good luck this season.

Cheers Jamie, have to say that Sat result v Hayhill was excellent, just thought the wheels may have fallen off after all the injuries but to win that well and with personnel problems shows your confidence and new found will to win.

Our problem is that although on our day we can beat most teams, we have very little room for error (with points)after losing twice and to two of the promotion hopefuls.

Yeah, all the best to you guys keep it going!

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

Ben - Just wondering if nobody folds and the league has say another 3 teams join the league, would Div 2 get split in to say two leagues of 8 teams as surely 16 would be too many and Div1 would stay as 10. Just wondering as the BCFA seems to be expanding at the moment team wise. Would it mean if your in the bottom 5 or so teams in Div 2 you could be playing in a new Div 3? Just makes it more interesting and important to finish as high up as possible. I now there was a possibility of three leagues this season!

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

Crofty, I think it would need to be reviewed rather than hard and fast rules but we came close this year to considering 3 divisions so any more would surely put that back on the Agenda.
