Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

Yes i enjoy midweek games but say for e.g. we have to play gordano away midweek, that will be virtually impossible as it takes about 1h30 to get there.

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

My christmas Predictions:

Pld Pts
1 SAS 10 24
2 ROCK 10 22
3 SANCTUARY 9 21
4 C3 9 16
5 WIDCOMBE 10 16
6 BS4 12 13
7 KENSINGTON 8 12
8 WELTON 10 12
9 ISRAEL 8 11
10 HILLFIELDS 5 9
11 HAYHILL 8 5
12 GORDANO 9 1
13 PISTOLS 10 1

I haven't predicted our scores as last time I predicted we were going to win the league or even a match we ended up bottom with -16 goal difference.

However if we manage to get a game on the 20th December we will have played 7 games with a maximum 21 points available.

Hope this comes out OK.

I think when determining who's got the best chance of promotion throughout the season, the best way to judge it is by points per game.

As you can see the table on this basis has very few changes, all you can draw from this is BS4 are in a false position too high up, and Rock are too low.

It's quite interesting to note 4 teams are currently averaging 2 points and above per game.

If you look at final tables for most leagues, except the Premiership. 2 points a game will get you promoted.

If you wonder why did i bother, I was bored, as since the clocks have changed these days (work) have been going exceptionally slow!

Anybody got any comments? I'm sure Crofty will have somthing to say. If you do this again at Christmas it really does give you a good idea of people's chances.

I think it's a bit too soon to take this too literally I think christmas like you said would probably show a clearer reflection when most teams have playerd each other once.

For example. BS4 have played 6 games 4 or so against teams I would say won't win promotion, when they play the likes of Sanctuary, Rock and SAS that will give a clearer indication of whether their current place in the league is a true reflection. C3 on the other hand have lost out to the big three getting only 1 point but when they play teams below the bottom 3 I think you'll see them progress more, 5 points from 5 for them is not a good start. Some teams like Welton, Hayhill, Hillfields, SAS have played a mixture of teams and their current position is likely an honest reflection of where they could end up.

Ok I know i've done this already but I am bored and am still buzzing off of two good results v Div 1 teams.

So it is 3 weeks 2 days till the league kick off but who’s counting, we’ve had a few games under our belts and watched a bit of the competition so how do you think it will finish based on recent results team news etc:

Bristol Pistols – I had tipped them to be a surprise package and they may well do this, however I think after seeing them last week that it may be one season to early and they may struggle. Bruce and Phillipe are ones to watch.

BS4 – New management and new players. I can tell you now they won’t finish bottom like last year and they won’t finish pointless. They will be at the bottom end of the table I feel but I think if Ian can get organised this season they may well do a Welstock or Hayhill and go from bottom to promotion in 2009/2010. Speaking to Ian he knows he has a task ahead. I think BS4 will have a strong second half to the season. Keep an eye on Jed Begley .

CCC B&B – Student team who excelled above anyones expectations to almost make promotion last year. They should have a similar season but inconsistent team may mean a mid table finish in a tight league. One to watch Neil at the back

Gordano – After meeting and playing with some of the boys in Nailsea cup, I think that they will struggle this season maybe more than we’d think, the boys didn’t seem optimistic (mind games?) and I can see them being rooted to the bottom, sounds like they haven’t added anyone. Watch Ian tricky player.

Hayhill (Hope) – May take a while for these two teams to mix, however they will have a lot of experence between them, Hayhill finished 3rd last year, I cannot see them matching that this time around a mid table finish.

Hillfields – We have had a good preseason(so far), we have a great bunch of lads now and anything but promotion would be seen as a footballing failure to us. One to watch – not telling!

Israel – Expect them to have some good individuals but whether they will gel in time I am unsure, think they will probably win more than they loose but will finish in the middleish.

Kensington – With a few 07/08 Christchurch players I see them as the strongest of the new boys and may well push for promotion, maybe losing out just in 5th place.

Rock – Have to be favourites seeing they chose to drop down a division after a good season in Div 1. I cannot see them losing many games and am unsure just how many players they have lost, lumps the only one I know of. Expect them to finish top.

SAS – After they were billed for great things last year and didn’t live up to it, they must be one of the favourites this time around, hillfields bogey team, can see them right up in the mix.

The Sanctuary – Had an ok season last year, but losing Bruce and simon in defence and Christy up front I think they may struggle. Nigel is a clever manager so I don’t expect them to lie down and take a beating, but he said he has an inconsistent team available. Bar a few new signings can see them near the bottom. – Joe Lee wasted in central defence.

Welton – Will be a tough team to beat who will push for promotion, seem to have got over relegation and seem confident. Lenny will whip em into shape.

Widcombe – Had a good year last year, I am not sure they’ll exceed that (sorry Rob) but they impressed in Nailsea and Rob says they are flying so I can see being near the top half based on Robs assessment.

1. Rock
2. Hillfields
3. Welton
4. SAS
5. Kensington
6. Widcombe
7. CCC bath & Bristol
8. Hayhill
9. Israel
10. The Sanctuary
11. BS4
12. Bristol Pistols
13. Gordano

Please not this is simply based on talking to some teams, their preseason scores and the 2007/08 season. So please don’t be offended. Will probably change again in 3 weeks or so.

I saw this earlier and had to laugh, a few eat your own words in there! Here is my early season roundup see how much it's changed.

Bristol Pistols – I was a partly right in my prediction that it will be a season too early but they have alot of work to do before they can challenge for points.

BS4 – Almost right with this but they have more points than anyone expected. I still think that they won't challenge for promotion but may well finish in the top half of the table possibly 6th 7th.

CCC B&B – Probably right with these boys think they won't do enough for promotion and start has suggested that, however they will cause most teams problems.

Gordano – Have improved in some ways but can't see them doing much more than challenge Pistols for points.

Hayhill (Hope) – Agree with this may well be one to watch next season as the rebbuild this season.

Hillfields – Ha Ha. Well 2 big loses later and the optimism has faded some what if we can get among the top four that would be a great achievment.

Israel – Agree with this one.

Kensington – Have shocked me have not impressed me that as much as I thought but we;ll see.

Rock – Still the strongest team I feel but losing to SAS wasn't in the script.

SAS – Think SAS with Sanctuary have to be one of the favourites to win the league.

The Sanctuary – Got this one wrong although they have lost some quality they have brought in a few good replacements and that has shown in their results. Easily the best team in the league at the moment this weeks game with Rock will be key.

Welton – Go this one wrong welton are lacking confidence and are not in the position I expected.

Widcombe – Will be near the top but like Hillfields have dropped a few too many points already which may cost them.

Can see final table looking something like this!

1. Sanctuary
2. SAS
3. Rock
4. Hillfields
5. Widcombe
6. C3
7. BS4
8. Israel
9. Kensington
10. Welton
11. Hayhill
12. Gordano
13. Pistols

Can also see points from 5th-10th being close maybe 5 points splitting them.

i think that bs4 will prove a point to everyone by pushing the big teams to the wire although i agree winning v rock etc will be hard i think we do have a chance.

Yeah I think you will too, just feel that Andrews average point wasn't really a true reflection until everyone has played each other once. If you keep playing as you have past 7 or so games you'll be fine and maybe even knock on the promotion door!

This is a bit of a crazy statement Crofty. We've only played 5 games and only dropped 5 points! We've got another 19 matches to play, so there are plenty of points availble!

As for writing yourselves off - I won't be fooled. I think you guys are still one of the favourites to go up. You are by far the most impressive team we've played all season and there is no way you could've had the same side out against Sancturary and SAS that you did against us. Your regular players have clearly come back in recent weeks, which makes you still a strong contender for promotion.

For the record, I think SAS will win the league. They look a very good team.

I guess maybe for you as you haven't played them yet, but the fact that SAS and Sanctuary have taken 3 points off us already, mean we are playing catch up all season, we don't have much room to slip up. Last few seasons the top two lose 3 maybe 4 games it is just gonna be a tough one for us to win almost all of our games and it will mean probably taking maximum points off of SAS, Sanctuary and Rock not something I am looking forward to. If Sanctuary beat Rock this weekend and SAS next I feel they may do a BUCU leaving like last year 1 space for about 5 teams to go for.

Crofty, your signature is very selective. We drew with you in the Shield and both us and Thornbury beat you in the Baptist Tournament.
