Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD
quote: Crofty7 wrote:
So an interesting weekend in Division Two.
Sanctuary managed a draw despite being down to 10 men most of the game which shows that nobody yet has been able to challenge them. A draw does close the gap a bit for some teams but not enough for them to worry about it.
Hillfields, we moved up to second this week after an enjoyable win at Gordano and finally got into the plus goal difference for the first time this season. Have a tough game with Hayhill this week tho, but we do have the goal machine called Lumpar .
BS4, I’ve decided to try and stop being shocked by their results, they have proven a third into the season that they have got what it takes to stay in the top half of the table and are proving a tougher test than people thought.
Widcombe, no game this week but only 3 points off of top expect them to stay at the top part of the table now.
SAS, perhaps would have wanted a win against 10 men but they are the only team to take points off of Sanctuary this year and still remain unbeaten. Also a game in hand for them, they will be right up there.
Rock, still very much in contention, expect to see them near the top.
Israel, No game this week but games in hand put them near the top!!
C3, Shocked by their start still think they will start picking it up soon.
Welton, a tight loss to Rock may give them confidence to know they are not far from getting a result.
Kensington, Not many games yet but an indifferent start not too sure where they’ll finish up.
Hayhill, seems they are struggling a little this year but still expect them to take points off of teams.
Pistols, expect to see them collect some points now with the return of Bruce.
Gordano, Seem to be struggling this year and not too sure how many points they’ll be able to get this season.
Going into the end of the first third of the season, I think that you’re looking at a top six (Sanctuary, Hillfields, BS4, Widcombe, SAS, Rock) to battle out for the two promotion spots. Then a mid table group of (Israel, C3, Kensington, Welton.) with (Hayhill, Pistols Gordano) fighting for the final 3 spots. Although I can see one of the top swapping with a midtable team.
Still a long way to go but some shape forming now.
Can see Widcombe and BS4 creating there own group with Rock, below the Top 3.
I think it will be somthing like:-
SAS, SANCTUARY, Hillfields
BS4, Rock, Widcombe
C3 Kensington Israel,
Pistols, Hayhill, Welton.
Gordano
Four groups of 3 with Gordano a foot at the bottom.
Things can change, hopefully a miracle will happen and we beat nailsea in the cup, as we have gone to pot. SAS next sat can see nothing other than one result here....
a Welton win.

Dunno I am doing a bit of a U-turn on Widcombe, I think they may take points off most teams can see them at the top but (sorry Paul) Rock will keep involved and BS4 keep surprising me so can't really count them out. Welton won't drop into bottom 4 should stay mid table, you'll get better.

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD
Well a good week for Sanctuary and SAS who are now 1st and 2nd. Hillfields BS4 could have gone top and Widcombe or Rock second with results going their way instead SAS move ominously into second and Sanctuary stay top despite not even playing. Sanctuary have to be favourites now they are sitting pretty while all others around them seem to drop points, the mini stumble SAS had seems to be behind them. I would now place Widcombe ahead of Rock and Hillfields with BS4 just behind them. A loss for Hillfields was the worst thing that could happen, Hillfields had to go into Christmas without another loss and we’ve failed to do that still with 4 tough games left till then not counting us out but not in our hands anymore. If Hayhill play as solid as they did on Saturday then they’ll take points off a few teams but it seems to me that they have an up and down team. Israel are also moving quietly up the table and may well join the top few soon. Welton can’t seem to get it together and C3 despite winning seem to be well off of the top.
Shield and cup this week so a week off from the league more most of us.

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD
Watch out for Israel. I have looked at their results (as we have them in the Shield this week) and their position is definately decieving. They have only lost two games - to Sanctuary and Rock (who are two of the leagues stronger sides), whilst also notching wins against Kensington (who don't look bad themselves), BS4 and Gordano, as well as beating Santos (a Div 1 team) in the cup. Not a bad record at all!
I think their league position is false, and will quietly sneak up the table, edging past BS4 and possibly Rock. Remember BS4 have played 4 more games than Israel!
Also, I'm glad we played Hayhill when we did, coz they are definately improving! Don't be suprised to see them creep up the table too!

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD
Looking forward to playing you in a fortnight. Under my Welstock/Welton career we have never not beaten Widcombe even when we were bottom of the bottom. I'm sure that will change come our next game against you.
Also was the team i broke my leg against so it's always a bit personal for me when we play you guys even though probably only a few if any were around.

Agree about Israel and kensington. With Hayhill we played them 2 weeks ago and they were poor they sat back and it was like a training match, although we edged it was a completely dominant performance, however this week very different team very solid everywhere and all over us with regards to effort, didn't give us anytime. They deserved to win can't complain or even say we should have got something they 100% deserved it. I am in a bit of shock at the moment with 6 wins on the bounce including good ones against yoursleves and Slip I really did not expect to lose to Hayhill, we should be top and now we are gonna have to work super hard just to stay in the top 4 we can't afford to slip up much more can't see SAS or Sanctuary losing 3 games this season. Rock are not out of it but like us seem to struggle against the big teams and they are the games where promotion will be won or lost presuming teams don't do a Hillfields and lose to a lower team.
One of the problems with our leagues is consistency of teams obviously you can't account for injuries but a lot of teams end up having different teams each week especially student teams, that is why BSXI are very consistent although this week they did, most of the time their 11 doesn't change. Sanctuary played against 10 men v Israel and won 5-0 yet Santos lost to them probably with a strong team, Sanctuary played a weak rock side and demolished them 8-1 yet I am sure you had to play a against a stronger team last sat. We've played two different Hayhill teams, but played weaker Pistols and BS4 sides than others have. It could come down to who gets the luck of the fixtures. Rock are not 8-1 worse than Sanctuary and we are not 12-2 worse than SAS.
Not moaning as it does even itself out but is worth remembering when you face a team even if they have just lost heavily not too look too much at the scoreline.

I was quite shocked that you thought we'd never beaten you, so I have looked over the records and you're right! You really are a bogey team for us. The best result we've ever had against you was a 3-3 draw!
Our side has changed alot since then, and I'm one of only two or three lads that played against you in the early Welstock/Welton days.
Which match did you break your leg against us in? Not sure if I played or not.

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD
I think that was in our first season i was only 15 so didn't/ couldn't play.
Your the only team i've won against every time i've played you in competitive football..... i may have to avoid the next game to keep that intact

Totally agree with this.
No matter how good Sanctuary are, there is no way they would have beaten the same Rock team we played 8-1. Rock must have been weaker when they played Santuary. Likewise SAS definately did not beat the same Hillfields 12-2, that beat us 4-3.
Also, when we played BS4 on the first game of the season, we drew 1-1 and they looked a very good team, but when we played them later in the season we beat them 4-1. On the 1st match of the season, BS4 had a couple of quality players that have barely played since. I can't help but think that if we had played BS4 any other time, we would have had a better chance of taking all 3 points.
However, we played a weaker Hayhill side when we won 7-0, so it has worked in our favour too.
Unfortunately that's just how it goes with football at our level. Like you say though, it does even itself out over the course of a season - usually!

Mind games! I won't be fooled! I still think you are a decent side, and I remember from 2 seasons ago that you do have some very good players who - looking at you're squad this year - are still playing.
