Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

Well the unexpected happened on Saturday and now it is surely just a matter of who out of SAS and Sanctuary will win the race for the title.

Hillfields lost unexpectedly to BS4 and Sanctuary finally lost their unbeaten record to SAS. The two losses means that SAS have pretty much secured second place and condemned Hillfields to another season in Division 2 it also means that what was looking like a formality for Sanctuary to cruise to the title is now not a certainty with Sanctuary only needing to drop points in two games for SAS to overtake them.

It is a shame that with 9 games or so left the promotion places look to be bagged but you have to give credit to SAS and Sanctuary for being super consistent this season and not giving a sniff to any other teams. Hillfields have had promotion in their hands a couple of times this season but when the pressure is applied Hillfields seem to buckle and don’t seem to be able to maintain the momentum that the top two have shown.

Despite their loss I think Sanctuary will win the league and SAS will follow closely behind them. The battle now is for a bit of pride in being the next best team, Hillfields Widcombe and Rock will battle out the rest of the season for third place.

There is also a rumour of perhaps three divisions next season so assuming that happens and assuming that which league you are in is based on your position this season then there is still a lot to play for amongst the remaining teams to ensure they remain in Div 2. Of course this is just a rumour at the moment.

Promotion + Hillfields = emoticon

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

If this rumour becomes a reality i'm sure your position in the league won't mean much as if people think they will struggle in division 2 then they can easily drop down, as Hayhill and Rock have.

I was thinking more that if you don't wanna be in division 3 then best pull you finger out as you can't choose to go up, I am sorry to say emoticon

Also I don’t really agree with teams coming down as if you can still provide 11 players then why not play them Sanctuary did it 2 seasons ago and lost every game, however after speaking to Hayhill and listening to Rock I do understand why – we are trying to run a league where we use football to show a Christian example as well as hopefully seeing our teammates come to Jesus through it. If you have a team which you know is young and inexperienced and have lost a lot of experienced players like Rock did and Hayhill the time before then going a season in Division 1 where you get hammered every week isn’t much fun and makes the aim of using football to reach others harder as nobody will enjoying playing football for your team – I have to say that I personally would rather play in div 1 if I earned it even if it meant I was to get relegated however, I am sure I wouldn’t enjoy it as much nor find it easy to motivate and encourage my team. Rock and Hayhill know their team and know their players better than you do if their heart is to focus more of building something for God rather than just simply playing football for the sake of it and choosing to play a lower level of football to do that is the best way then who are we to judge that decision. Hayhill were never really in contention for promotion last season and Rock have fallen away this so they didn’t do it for glory I am sure.

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

Agree neither sides have done it for glory just annoying. You play a whole season, and for some teams it effectively becomes pointless. Like when Slip should of gone down and Santos last year.

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

So remarkably despite two defeats in a row Hillfields are still third and I am afraid that will be the highest they can aim for now this season bar a Catastrophic collapse by SAS or Sanctuary, which isn't gonna happen. There is also a massive chance that if Hillfields don't capture back thier form they will be in danger of slipping further down the table.

Well done to Welton on Sat, we had chances a possession to perhaps earn a draw like the week before but as mr Davo says the team who puts the ball in the net more deserves to win and Welton this week and BS4 the week before have done that. i really hope Welton can go on now and start to push further up the table they showed great unity on sat perhaps something that was lacking before if they keep that they will win more games!

I can see table finishing

Sanctuary
SAS
Hillfields
Widcombe
Rock
Israel
Kensington
BS4
Welton
C3
Hayhill
Pistols
Gordano

Third has to be our target if we want to improve on last year, bit of a boring finish now in div2 as nobody bar a remarkable Widcombe run can stop SAS or Sanctuary. Just hope we don't get relegated emoticon

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

How are they going to make it into 3 divisions?

We have 23 teams at the moment, anything smaller than 8 is way too small. So would need 3 new teams and no drop-outs in order to get 3 divisions, unless div 1 would be reduced to 8 teams?

I dunno what is going to happen, every season there are loads of teams interested but in the end we end up with less than expect, if interest remains I reckon 3-5 teams may join, with no drop outs that will be 28 teams probably a 10 9 9 formation, however, the likly hood of 5 teams keeping interest and nobody dropping out is unlikely therefore you are probably looking at 24 teams minimum and probably 26 max. hopefully we'll have 26 and have a 10 8 8 formation with triple headers. I think we know 13 teams is probably too many 12 for div 2 is probably the maximum you should have to ensure there are free weekends a plenty. Div 1 won't change from 10 as that league needs to stay consistent unless of course third place goes up this year then 11 teams sounds good emoticon. It is difficult as if you have 13 teams this year and say 1 team joins no drop outs what do you do? we need 26 teams minimum to have a decent three leagues. What ever happens glad I am not on the committee having to decide.

I know the reasons for not expanding div1 but considering the growing popularity of the league has any thought gone into expanding the numbers in Div1? I understand that if interest dropped you would have too big a division 1 and too small a div 2 and therefore may have to relegate more that 2 teams so sticking to 10 is safe.

Of course this is all speculation there may be no new teams and a bunch of drop outs!
