Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

So the promotion places are pretty much decided, mathematically if SAS and sanctuary keep winning SAS will have promotion officially by the end of play on 4th April and Sanctuary on the same date if they beat us. However Sanctuary dropping 15 points in 8 games when they have dropped 4 in 16 is not gonna happen. SAS are 9 points clear but don’t really have any teams bar Widcombe left to play who will likely beat them.

The title assuming they both keep winning may well go down to the penultimate weekend. It will be shocking if Sanctuary don’t win it but with SAS goal difference two defeats could well hand SAS the title.

For the rest of the league there are 4 (anyone else notice Kensington’s rise up the league?) battling it out for the pointless third place. Hillfields and Rock are the forerunners however Hillfields have to play all those teams around them so they will all be six pointers Hillfields can finish well clear in third or way down in 6th! I can see Welton sneaking up to at least 7th but the rest of the table I can’t see adjusting too much.

For me it has been an enjoyable season so far and sometimes you have to hold your hands up and admit your team is not ready to go up, however our performance in the league isn’t all that bad and if we get 9 points in the next 3 games we will have the same points and games played that secured Nailsea promotion last season, I think we just have to say that Sanctuary and SAS really raised the bar and we couldn’t live up to it.

Next season I can see us having 3 divisions with possibly the top 8 from division 2 remaining in div 2. I reckon that could be Hillfields, rock, Widcombe, Kensington, Welton, Israel with probably Nailsea and Pip n jay joining them. – that will be a tough league and much harder to get out of than this or last season. I think the bar has been raised in terms of quality throughout the divisions and there is little to chose from between most Div1 teams and some Div 2 teams makes for an interesting BCFA future.

Nice round up Crofty, still not sure how it will be 3 divs next season?

Need a lot of new teams and no drop outs do you know something we don't?

Seems to be a lot of interest in the league don't know how many teams, however there is always interest in the league but come sign on day it is lost.

The problem I see is Div2 can't have anymore teams added to the 13, this season has proved that weather or not. Therefore if 4 teams join but say 2 drop out that gives you 15 teams outside Div 1, assuming div 1 won't increase numbers a 15 team league is unmanagable so you'll have to go with a league of 8 and 7, I think a third division is almost definate how it will be sorted and many teams it will have is the question.

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

We should have a Premier League with elite teams such as Woodies, BSXI, Widcombe and Counterslip emoticon

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

I'm slightly bemused by the fact we can't have more teams in Div 1 and 2 ?

The league i play sat afternoon has 15 teams and they are on about merging div 1 and div 2 east and div 2 west into two divisons because there isn't enough teams?

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

Fair comment Andrew. Should be able to manage 15 teams per division. Would mean having to scrap the Shield and possibly an increase in Evening kick offs. Would also need to put more pressure on home pitches re determining whether conditions are unplayable. GFA rules state that this is actually a decision that only the referee is allowed to make, so we may need to be more assertive on this issue.

Our league is different as we are linked to churches who do things that keep us busy as well as sorting a football team. Such as camps, weddings (which if your slip is inevitable) church days etc. A 15 team league could work with all weekends being filled and playing more midweek games which isn't really possible for those who run other things and have families. the set up as is is fine but fixtures need to be managable and if that mean three leagues then so be it.

Also from playing for something point of view lets say there is a Div3 next season Div2 will say have 8 teams that means as well as two going up 2 will go down? therefore all 8 teams will likely be playing for something. div 3 say have 7 teams then all are going for promotion i think it makes for a much for interesting season and much more fun, as long as we win everything of course. emoticon

Is it really? So if a team cazlled me on the morning of a game and said, 'ref, the game has been called off today by the council', I could in theory overrule them?

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD

i dont think a league with 7 teams would be good at all. Each team would have only 12 games and if the league started around 6th sept like this year, the season would be over by christmas, barring bad weather obviously
