Ian, how have you been promoted? You're still I'm division 2.
Thats what I was thinking. But I guess as a Rovers fan he has to look at positive spin. Last season we were in the bottom division and now we are one off the bottom division. Thats some sort of progress.
Of course it's progress, we are out of the bottom division, and that is an achievement for a bunch of young lads who played 20, lost 20 in their first season.
I'll put a positive spin on anything I can if it helps

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD
This is true, Andy! She already watched Sunday games when she can, so I doubt she'd want to watch Saturday as well..so i'd rather spend one of those days with her rather than her having to watch football. But like you say, playing them every week would be fun...4 goals per game

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD
this is controversial but would the rule have been changed if a team without someone on the committee decided to put two teams in!
I agree with lenny Santos will be favourites, I assume though that they cannot play in the same division with VCF Santos, what happens if one is promoted and one relegated or the reserve santos (when promoted from div 3 or if the league reverts back to 2 divs( keep winning div 2 but cant be promoted to div 1. Could make a mockery of the league.
As i said a little controversial, the floor is open

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD
Fears and Lenny - I think I can say with confidence that I wouldn't make Santos favourites. The team will certainly have an average age older than Eakes and are now carrying so many niggles that they are contacting the FA to enquire about the use of zimmer frames during a match. The traditional post match pint will be replaced with a special post-match malted milk drink. As long as Nurse doesn't think they've had too much excitement for one day.
On a more serious note, your comment about whether the change has come about due to the presence of a Santos player on the committee isn't really necessary. I'd suggest its slightly rude to suggest that Si is changing the whole structure of the league just to suit his club. Personally, I'd have gone for 2 larger divisions, but I fail to see how Santos 2nds gain any advantage from a 3 Div format as opposed to the 2 divisions.

To be honest I think this 2-team rule happens in nearly every other amateur league in Bristol so it doesn't make a mockery of it. It just shows how we're growing and the fact that our league's rules haven't quite caught up with others yet.
The 3 division decision was made entirely separately from any 2-VCF consideration (eg Widcombe have had two teams for years and we've never considered moving to 3 divisions). Its a numbers thing based on the struggle to fulfil fixtures in recent years and not wanting to put too much pressure on teams whose players are involved in lots of other activities in their churches.
You may think I'm biased as I had a say in these points before the meeting but I hope those at the meeting will agree that all these decisions were given every chance to be discussed in detail and the Santos flexibility was actually reduced in the end following a suggestion from another committee member - work that one out!

Re: DIVISION TWO THREAD
Yeah, its funny how certain rulings get their names. Firstly we had the Bosman rule, last year with respect to not rearranging too many fixtures we had the Widcombe rule and now with players changing teams we have the Si Baker hamstring rule.
Thinking next year we'll have the Eakes tapping up rule whereby if I actually get more than 11 strikers into my squad I'm allowed to play them all in my starting line up.

At the end of the day Fears we as a BCFA league had to pass the rule change, therefore it was the decision of the league managers to allow Santos( and widcombe) to excercise this rule, the fact Si Baker raised it is no different to as whether we had raised it. As much as there is a freedom to discuss things there is discussion and there is accusation the second of which isn't really warranted on this board nor is it the place to do it. To question how the BCFA is ran (by people who voluntarily give their time) is a bit much and a laugh coming from someone who's team didn't attend the AGM.
