I think the game will be a good excuse for MO'N to drop him. The pass he gave away for Stoke's winner on Saturday was awful..

True. Showing his England quality there. Looks like we're in for Riera now.

Probably. A draw would be a good result IMO.

Anyone watch MOTD2 tonight? Especially Chris Foy's performance in the Sunderland Man City match? He missed 3 of the clearest fouls you are ever likely to see, 2 of them worthy of bookings - one of those could have been red. The most unbelievable moment was when after Reid had hacked down Jo (I think) and then straight away hacked down Corluka, you could lip read Foy - 'No foul' emoticon

You could also lip read Mark Hughes - 'Unblievable'. Says it all.

Re: The Premiership thread

The Andy Reid ones were laughable.

We had an interesting one in our game on Saturday that I got rather animated about (apologies Nath!) but having chatted to JP about it afterwards think the ref got it right.

The SAS player passed the ball forward and our lino flagged for offside. In the meantime though our player handballed the ball. The ref gave SAS a free kick.

I argued that the offside was the first offence so should have been our free kick.

What JP was saying was that because the ball did not arrive at the offside player, he was technically not active so therefore was not offisde.

Your thoughts??

Without looking up the rule and going on instinct, I would have given the offside.

You could say that the attacker is active because the defender has handballed it to stop it going to them.

And I think as a referee, if you weren't sure, the best decision would be to give the offside as it minimses the risk of potential confrontation. For example, if you'd given the free kick for the handball and they had scored from it, you would have had the defender confronting you arguing why you didn't give the offside. If you give the offside in the first place, I don't think the attacking players would argue as much as I don't think they'd know enough about the rules to disagree with you!(not that that stops players anyway!)

Re: The Premiership thread

Gonna have to ask the Oracle - Chris, your thoughts?

Turps, if he's not on the messageboard at the moment, can you ask him when you next see him?

I've edited my post to give a more detailed answer.

Yep, saw that. Andy Reid could quite easily have been given two yellow cards for two fouls within two seconds of each other.

My first thought was that it should have been a free kick for offside, which I would have given as a referee, but when I thought about it, I don't think the attacker was technically active as he hadn't received the ball (& can't remember if he was going through on goal, or running back to an onside position) so therefore Cheese handballing it was the first offence, so therefore a free kick for that. If only someone could clear up the offside rule for us.....Christopher..... emoticon
