Re: Splitting up the forum

The other thing that needs sorting out is hijacking. Too many well intended threads get taken over my a load of irrelevant waffle, usually by 'slip, and it very annoying when you are trying to do something a bit more serious.

When I was organising the charity match at Christmas I had to start a thread several times over because of a load of ignorant hijacking despite repeated requests to keep to the subject. Sometimes its not funny!

Re: Splitting up the forum

Thread hijacking could be sorted by moderation but I just don't think it's something we want to get into. I'm very much a fan of light moderation. We've only banned one person ever and suspended one person. We all have lives to lead outside the message board and I sometimes spend weeks without looking at it.

The board stats suggest there are a lot of lurkers (viewers who don't post). Cant imagine why but in the season we have almost 3000 impressions a day.

Anyway i've set up the new board and i would like a few guys to try it out before it goes live. Post comments back in this thread if you have issues getting in or posting otherwise try commenting on the new board.

Si, this is good. I am used to this layout for a Brighton website I use. Can you re-jig the sponsors adverts etc so they aren't between posts?

Is it a bit controversial to say there are maybe too many sub-divisions of the messageboard?? What is the definition of the "active threads" halfway down?

Re: Splitting up the forum

I think active threads is just the threads with the most activity on. Wont really see how it works until there are lots of users using it. I've noticed the message board usage has tailed off drastically in the last few weeks which i guess is normal post AGM.

Have you suggestions of how to reduce the number of forums? I could remove the division threads (1,2,3)which would leave 5 generally available forums plus the club forums.

Only option for sponsorship is between 1st & 2nd post. You'll learn to ignore it quick enough.

I like having the div threads but as not many added to Div1 other than Welton (now Div3) then may well be pointless but, i'd like to keep them.

I think the forum splits is fine and threads can be added under them so think you've covered the titles, only thing is not sure about Prayer forum, can't think of a better name maybe just call it "church stuff" and have it available for threads such as church events, prayer requests etc????

Overall I like it when will it get rolled out officially as i'll add it to link to website!
