Ok, so here's the verdict... we were fiddlin' around last nite on da server and managed to get Kami up and running on this nice texture pak.... they DO REQUIRE NOCHEAT 2.40, d/l here:
D/L Nocheat 2.40 beta 2
AND, ur video settings in Q2 menu should be set to NOCHEAT OPENGL, lookie like this:
For any1 else interested... the fellas at Bryceinc. even have their own texture pak very similiar... but it's 55 whopping MB, more than twice the size of Masta's pak... and I still prefer it even tho it's a smaller file. But they have interesting msgs on the topic:

Yep, that did the trick, i didnt have nocheat open gl on.
if i am not mistaken, it doesnt run as smooth with either the texture pak or nocheat open gl mode on. probably the latter. Most noticeable when firing rockets. i suppose i could help cure that by turning the trails off of the weapons, but i dont think that would be very healthy in multi.

I'm glad it works! These new textures at least make Q2 more interesting. I am a sucker for nicer looking graphics in the newer games... this is a fresh look.
Gator, Q2 is such an old graphics engine that these new textures shouldn't be a significant hit on performance unless ur running a particularly old pc and vid card. What do you have?

yeah, it definately runs very, very choppy in nocheat opengl, i had to go back to normal. if i enter a room and three rockets go off, the thing darn near siezes.
im on a stock compaq 330 celeron D. Is that junk? i dont know what video card i have, but it has always acted like it wasnt up to the task. i probably need to get something better in it, but with these darn compaqs, i think you have to pay someone to do it. Not sure how long the warranty is on them anyways, probably shouldnt worry about it.

Gator, I'd be willing to bet that you have shoddy Intel "Extreme" Graphics in your PC. It's an integrated graphic solution, which means that it uses system memory rather than its own dedicated memory. Simply put, it's not designed to game well. The Celeron D isn't a bad cpu, so I don't think it is your problem. Of course, you can always upgrade to a P4 anytime you want--both cpus use the same socket. Provided there is an AGP slot inside, you should be able to upgrade to any video card that you chose. If you need further assistance on what to look for inside the pc or on what card to buy, just ask. You definitely don't need to pay compaq for your trouble. I will, however, let you pay me instead.

Ya Gator... if the graphics are choppy on that system that is "chuggin" away, then Nocheat and these new texture paks are not worth it. In due time you'll get a more up-to-date pc and be able to take advantage of these modifications.

Actually, i just bought and "upgraded" (truly) to this computer. And stupid me, i "upgraded" from a q2 purpose built machine to this thing. It has been so long i dont even remember my way around a motherboard.
Remember kids... Stay in school! and Don't Use Drugs!
i'm preparing to make my old purpose built brick a dedicated server. So now i have to get it running. Maybe i should reverse their roles.

I bumped up this thread on the Texture Paks Masta shared with us for those who might not have seen this.
I can't imaginge playing Q2 without it now. The only thing I don't like about it... is it requires NoCheat.
