Re: This friggin XP / Mouse accel problem...........
Yup I have all three set at 0. Still not sure what effect the smoothmouse x and y have. Since I haven't come across a site that truely defines em. Most sites just say it fixes the acceleration.

Re: This friggin XP / Mouse accel problem...........
If you are using nocheat, You may want to try setting "set m_xp "0"" if you apply one of the regedit fixes.
Here is where I originally found the stuff I used to fix my mouse problem.
http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak1084.aspx
As you can see there are several issues with a mouse that come up with a search on the tweakxp site.
http://www.tweakxp.com/search.asp?s=mouse
For general registry editing here is a good site that I use.

Re: This friggin XP / Mouse accel problem...........
I've been having terrible mouse problems the last couple of days. Having said that, the last several games of quake I've played have been fine. I am thinking though that this problem I'm having is a little different than the usual problems people are having. It's like the mouse will get taken over go on it's own right into the lava or acid or wherever it wants to go. But then, I get control back without any problems until it decides to do it again. I tried unistalling mouseware and that seemed to help. There was also a setting in device manager that I changed that seemed to help. The last thing I've tried is plugging into a usb port instead of the ps/2 port. Right now I've got mouseware reinstalled and have it plugged into the usb port. The setting in device manager is not available with the usb connection, so not using that. One question I have is, how critical or not is it to plug into the usb port? I've never used it before until now. Has anyone else experienced the mouse behavior that I described? It's almost as though I get a power surge or something and it picks up the mouse (does that make any sense?) Also, regarding mouse problems in general, has anyone really fixed their problem? I noticed that putts posted some things. Wondering if I should try some of those things or some that geikram posted also?? Have I gone on enough? All this just so I can play quake, hehe. It does not affect any other part of my box. Just when playing quake and then only sometimes. Arrrrggghhhh!

Re: This friggin XP / Mouse accel problem...........
Do you have nocheat 2.40 installed ? It sounds like the same prob I had...I would be running straight.. next thing ya know im eating the wall or in the lava 5 feet away... It hasnt happened since I loaded nocheat..after you load it you have to change your exe in gamespy to nocheat.exe and there will be a nocheat option added to your q2 options..in there set it to fix the winxp mouse prob automatically..you can also set your opengl option to nocheat.. not sure if that matters with the mouse prob but if you d/l'd the new pack files from here you need that setting to get them to work..Its tuff to find version 2.40 online but I think theres a link in one of the stickys.
Hope this helps

You can find it in the meaningless & gameing forum..ESSENTIAL sticky.

Re: This friggin XP / Mouse accel problem...........
howdy biglurch...so this sounds like the problem you were having? kinda like when your driving on snow and lose control for a few seconds, kinda takes you away? I've just finished playing a few games and it didn't bother me once. But it was acting up earlier. Strange stuff.

Re: This friggin XP / Mouse accel problem...........
No you dont need gamespy..I thought you used it...just make sure you use the nocheat exe to start q2...That sounds exactly like the prob I was having..Only happened 2-3 times per map but when it hits you have no control..Seemed like I would either spin or go directly left or right...Nocheat helped me and I think alot of other guys here... I havnt seen a post on the mouse prob for a long time...
If you dont have it yet...GETERDONE..
I've been laying on the couch all day watching the comedy channel...

Re: This friggin XP / Mouse accel problem...........
well, I've been running nocheat off and on for the last couple of days and it seems a bit better, but I still get the same thing happening from time to time. I can start up quake without using it and it won't happen for several games, then it will start. Just don't understand why after all this time, it is happening. I had a logitech mx700 and it started doing it a while back, so I switched to a logitech "clickmouse", both models are cordless. Went for a long time without problems using this mouse and now the problems return??? Driving me nutz!
