Can I jump in here with some problems?
Bought a new mouse, Logitech 518 ubber leet
gaming mouse and a Half Life 2 game of the year addition.
First- The new mouse came with software for Win XP only, not so good for my 98SE. Downloaded a driver from logitech and got the mouse to work until I try quake 2. In Q2 any
movement above a snails pace causes the mouse to freeze or lock-up. It works fine for surfing Etc. Just not in Q2, a quick 180 turn causes it stop responding until I move it slowly.
Hal Life 2 has been a true disaster. 50 dollars, 4 hours and I have yet to see the game. It locks up my system within seconds
of trying to start any of the games.
I've done new Nvidia drivers, new direct x 9.0c, checked the sound card and looked for
"updates" from Steam. My steam account shows to be okay, no error messages. When I hit play a game, from any of the available start
places, the screen goes black then back to desktop and completely locked-up. I can view the server list, check up dates Etc, just can't run the $&^%$ game.

Hey Superdave... if ur still running on Win98, there's ur problem. Microsoft no longer supports Win98 or any older O/S... Win2k is the oldest they'll support. So what this basically means is that u don't have any critical updates and/or patches for Win98. More importantly, all of the new games are designed with newer O/S in mind... namely XP. Newegg is very reliable vendor many of us already use... if any1 has a cheaper source they recommend, then chime in. I will eventually migrate up to XP whenever I do a PC upgrade within the next year

Yeah, while HL2 does claim to run on 98/ME, I doubt that it's optimized for it. Almost every bit of new software saw most of it's testing time on WindowsXP. Not to mention that 98 acts kinda goofy on today's high-end machines.
