COD Newbie
Hello all and hope ya'll had a great holiday!
The original COD made it's way into my stocking as you can credit Gator for highly recommending it . With lots of diverse single play missions, I like it a lot so far. I know I'll get 0wned in multiplayer as I have to ramp up on the learning curve.
So, here's some newbie questions:
- Your map pack link is dead. Where can I grab "essential" maps for multi-player?
- What are the top 2 or 3 multiplayer mods I should pay attention to? I don't want to d/l a dozen mods when I won't play most of 'em.
- For multiplayer, which 3 maps should I really try to learn to get a hang of the game? Ya know, like in Q2, everyone has to learn dm1, dm8.
- I'm on the 1.5 patch. Any other patches I need?
Thanks in advance!

Re: COD Newbie
I was going to let Gator reply to this one, seeing as how he's far better and more knowledgeable at call of duty than I am.. but here is what I can tell you.. (Gator will be gone for a while now apparently)
Well.. I don't have that map pack, we usually play normal maps as far as I know so I would'nt worry about it
Maps: mp_carentan, mp_depot and mp_pavlov in my opinion. we play these quite often
Mods: Well.. the only two I know of that I/We play, are AWE mod, and Modern Weapons mod, due to the fact these are both server side, you won't need to download anything
1.5 patch is fine, no more are needed (:
hope this helps..

Re: COD Newbie
Happy New Year all!
Ok... my 1st impressions after logging a few hours on COD Team DM Servers:
- I found my spawn points were overrun by opponents quite a bit. I'd respawn and die after taking a few steps. This was annoying.
- Nade spamming especially spawn points... annoying.
- Search & Destroy is exactly like bomb defusal in Counterstrike... haven't played enuff S&D to get a true feel.
For me personally, the jury is still out on COD multiplayer. It's the same idea as Counterstrike from the standpoint of carrying a few weaps, reloading, hearing sounds and snipers owning the game. The spawn attacks are vert annoying in COD and the way Counterstrike avoids that is you die and you don't respawn till the round is over. Then again, that can be annoying also as you could potentialy wait "minutes" for a round to end if you die early on. I'll play COD online a bit more.
Meanwhile, the Single Play was awesome and find myself going back to re-play mission.... lots to choose from!

Re: COD Newbie
Well.. I prefer DM the most.. just plain out ffa, with not-too-busy servers (no more than 10), otheriwse Call of Duty, United Offensive expansion pack, I LOVE base assault in that.. just.. LOVE IT. try playing on less-populated servers, far more fun imo.

Re: COD Newbie
i find server set up to be a big part of the fun. i only play on servers that are set up the way i like to play. i prefer the awe mod, cuz its faster, allows a sprint, and you can carry more weapons. i also prefer lightly populated servers of four to 10 people.

Do I have to purchase the United Offensive Pack and does it provide more Single Player levels to play or is it only a Multi-Player add-on?

Re: COD Newbie
Yes, you'll need to purchase it, it adds new weapons, single player missions (which are far more challenging!) and some amazing multiplayer, base assualt for example
