Getting Started on Quake 1

Section 1:
Game files

First you'll need to create a Directory called 'Quake'. After you're done create another folder inside it called 'ID1'.

Download the .pak files and unzip it to the ID1 folder.
Get them here: http://download9.mediafire.com/zj50z5pnozng/bmjb6tladxx/ID1.rar

Section 2:
Client

Get yourself one or more of the many custom clients that help make your Quake game look great, feel great, taste great. etc.

I recommend using EZquake.
Get it here: http://ezquake.sourceforge.net/download/

Section 3:
Textures and Models

Get the Quake reModel and reTexture project here: http://facelift.quakedev.com/remodel/ & http://facelift.quakedev.com/retexture/

Please do note that these textures and models might be client dependent and require different directories to work. Best bet is to check out the readme files of your clients and whatever texture packs you downloaded.

OK latest updates, The best bet is to place whatever textures and models into your ID1/textures folder so that all clients can use them. IF you put them into qw/textures, only certain type 'o clients will load them, but ID1 is pretty universal.

After this you're all set to find a server and play, or you can even battle it out single player too.

Thanks Disco.
I have Quake1 and play it now ever so often.
I'll have to give the custom clients and textures a try.

i have interest, but i have alot on my plate right now. Probably wont dive in until i have more time. i have always loved quake. It is where i started playing on the internet. All other fps gaming i did before that was LAN. So quake will always hold a special place in my heart.
