Have you considered making this a non-register forum?
I prefer this lay-out to all the others and there are no pop-ups - the only problem is having to sign-in every time you visit.

nope, runboard forces login, so I am changing the forum type to PunBB, then I can add things like avatars, you know...like the Barrow forum?
