Thought for the day

God/Allah was a very lucrative sales gimmick. It also produced some of the worlds best salesmen. Their blind faith philosophy kept the money rolling in.The side effects of blind faith were psychosis and dodoism.
Seemingly, millions are coming out of that psychosis and the blind faith
'business' is beginning to wilt in Europe

The repression response

To a child its parents are all-powerful, all-knowing, all-present perfect beings who will love the child no matter what.

Our deepest, darkest fear is that we cannot be loved; that we are unlovable, because being loved is the most important thing to us since our instinct tells us our parents should love us unconditionally. Then, when our parents punish us; condition us, to turn us into 'civilised' human beings, the unconditional love cognition is damaged and our greatest pain and fear is born.

We thus create substitutes and alternative ways to obtain unconditional love. Worship is one of those ways. The dissonant reasoning behind it is if we worship, i.e. love, something, a substitute, unconditionally enough, it'll unconditionally love us back. That's why "a God to be loved - but also to be feared for punisment and therefore to be worshipped to avoid pain" - came to pass; created in our own image, hence its many human traits.

This appears to be the root.

"God" - the substitute who will take care of us and everything - is a coping strategie, a defence mechanism, known as 'the repression response'.

Anyway.

When propositions can only be accepted on faith, it is aknowledged what is proposed cannot stand on its own.
The biblical God proposition is a reification. As an argument, it is fallacious - it does not hold, can not stand on its own.

Re: Thought for the day

The idea that "God" is just, good, loving, all-powerful, all-knowing, all-present etc. seem to be traits placed on something that cannot be known - and the promises of "salvation", "eternal life in paradise" etc. also seem to be wishful traits placed on that which cannot be known.

If it's true that "God" cannot be known or proven, and that the "nature of God" cannot be imagined by us puny humans, what are those telling us about "God" on about then? As it seems, all the religions of the world have messed over humanity pretty badly. All the wars, pain, suffering, empty hope and promises in the name of this "God" or that, have been, will be, shall be in vain.

What's the point then? Why would people even bother in a practical sense?

The pontifications of people throughout history appear to be more about wishful thinking regarding traits of "God". "God" as described, by people, is nothing more than a projection. And then, to form vast institutions that study and advocate one hypothesis over another and have those institutions spawn cultures and spin-off institutions that go to war for their ideals for 1000's of years, each side having their "prophets" and "chosen", and each side giving promise to what will happen in the afterlife, seems to indicate that the religious parts of all this is a farce. A load of BS that the world has been sold in A GLOBAL RELIGIOUS CONSPIRICY TO DOMINATE MANKIND!

Cheekyness aside, the religious institutions do seem to lack credibility for themselves and their actions.

Take "Christianity" for instance, there are millions and millions of "Christians" the world all over; they make up one third of the world population or there abouts. If all those 'Christians" would act in accordance what "the word" is supposed to mean and/or stand for, the world would be a different place. Since it isn't, that indication tells me more than any "believer" ever could.

Faith is a cop-out. It is intellectual bankruptcy. If the only way you can accept an assertion is by faith, then you are conceding that it can't be taken on its own merits.
