The campaign to have Pope John Paul the 2nd known as “John Paul the Great” reminds me of an advert I saw for an event at Christendom College, the ad read: “Join Francis Cardinal Arinze, Marcus Grodi, and Christendom’s Faculty as they Celebrate 25 Glorious Years of Pope John Paul II’s Pontificate.”
Twenty-five glorious years! Where have they been living? The planet Zog? With the sordid details of the disintegration of the human element of the Church having been splashed across the world’s front pages for decades, isn’t it just a tad over the top to call these 25 years “glorious”? While I would hardly expect a Catholic college to have heaped public criticisms on the aging pontiff at that point in time, I do wonder why sane men don’t see a need to observe at least a decent silence when it comes to such a disastrous pontificate. Even the Pope himself just before his death had the good grace to question his own lack of governance over these same 25 years. He wasn’t a mere observer, after all; he was the man in charge of the debacle!

What is the point of praying to anything that does not care?

Henry Louis "H.L." Mencken, American editor and critic (1880-1956).
"We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the same sense and to the same extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart."
Religion is "so absurd that it comes close to imbecility." ["Treatise on the Gods"]
"Since the early days, [the church] has thrown itself violently against every effort to liberate the body and mind of man. It has been, at all times and everywhere, the habitual and incorrigible defender of bad governments, bad laws, bad social theories, bad institutions. It was, for centuries, an apologist for slavery, as it was an apologist for the divine right of kings."
"Faith may be defined briefly as an illogical belief in the occurrence of the improbable. . . . A man full of faith is simply one who has lost (or never had) the capacity for clear and realistic thought. He is not a mere ass: he is actually ill."
"God is the immemorial refuge of the incompetent, the helpless, the miserable. They find not only sanctuary in His arms, but also a kind of superiority, soothing to their macerated egos; He will set them above their betters." [from the alt.quotations archive, found from http://www.starlingtech.com/quotes/search.html]
"Religion is fundamentally opposed to everything I hold in veneration--courage, clear thinking, honesty, fairness, and, above all, love of the truth." [1925]
"Men become civilized, not in proportion to their willingness to believe, but in proportion to their readiness to doubt."
"For centuries, theologians have attempted to explain the unknowable in terms of the-not-worth-knowing."
"The most common of all follies is to believe passionately in the palpably not true. It is the chief occupation of mankin

Psychosis and Money

What is it then that makes them pray,
that makes them creep and crawl all day,
that makes them read some silly script,
their pride and confidence slyly stripped ?

What is it then that transfers their minds,
to heavens and angels and spiritual kinds,
to attend Cathedrals in little groups,
then dress in robes as exemplar troops ?

What is it then that makes them build,
on fertile land where food was tilled,
huge Mosques; and Cathedrals too,
just to sing and confess anew?

Does it help in anyway,
to wile away the hours of day,
dressed in best and on their knees,
praying to anything and making pleas?

Is it selfishness that makes them think,
we all need them to cower and shrink,
on our behalf at their request,
so that our souls be sublimely blessed?

The whiff of selfishness stirs the air,
I think it’s just themselves they care,
the work is easy and less to think,
from competition they wilt and shrink.

This God they advocate with fuss,
when ask for proof, they won’t discuss,
O proof, O proof; what for you need ?
the devils home you’ll go with speed.

My lucid mind begins to stir,
I’m in the hands of a blackmailer,
I only ask; for what your sales?
they came back as hard as nails.

So business then shall prevail,
In Woolworth’s by an honest sale,
the Church an inquisition me thinks,
proof of God surely brinks.

Prelates word wide, takes those silly frocks off.
There is no caring God.

'Religion' and free will are mutually exclusive concepts, at least those which preach the unproven mono-theistic approach.
These have a rigid one-size-fits-all doctrinal view of life - the either 'be saved by us or be damned for ever' - stance. Primitive and perhaps useful in the 'safety in numbers' societies of many eons ago. Fear is their main weapon.

As human beings are uniquely different in so many ways, this approach was always extremely limited in its usefulness, despite the theologically blood-drenched enforcement of it.
It takes no account of the spiritual nature of life, focussing on purely material matters while paying lip-service to a vague, ceremonial 'god' of their own construction.
A 'we owe Jesus our whole life for saving us' outlook is employed to encourage the herd mentallity, which does suit some personalities.

To spiritually thrive though, we must take responsibility for our own actions and thoughts. This is not good news for theologians whose
collective instinct is to control and regulate using whatever means to achieve this, from public denouncing to applying the lash.

As the aquarian age of individual thinkers ascends, we see the gradual decline of - now obsolete - monotheistic religion.

Scandalous photos surface of Fla.'s 'Father Oprah'

MIAMI (AP) — A Miami priest known as "Father Oprah" for offering relationship advice on the archdiocese's radio network is no longer broadcasting after photos surfaced that show him embracing a woman at a bar and at the beach, church officials said Tuesday.

Archdiocesan spokeswoman Mary Ross Agosta said the Rev. Albert Cutie met privately with his superior Tuesday, but it wasn't disclosed whether Cutie quit or was removed as head of the radio network and as pastor of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Miami Beach.

Cutie issued a statement Tuesday evening saying he remains committed to serving God.

"I ask for the forgiveness of those who may be hurt or saddened by my actions," he said.

Agosta called Cutie a wonderful priest and said he is on a prayerful journey.

"He has consoled and celebrated and christened and been in contact with hundreds of thousands of people through his church and programs, and now it's time to ask for prayers for Father Albert," she said.

Cutie headed the archdiocese's Radio Paz and Radio Peace broadcasts, heard throughout the Americas and in Spain. The Cuban-American priest was born in Puerto Rico and previously hosted shows on Telemundo. He is also a syndicated Spanish-language columnist and author of the book "Real Life, Real Love: 7 Paths to a Strong, Lasting Relationship."

Cynthia Hudson, an executive vice president at the Miami-based Spanish Broadcasting System, said her company's Mega TV network was approached by a paparazzo about four to six weeks ago with photos and video purportedly showing Cutie and a woman. The paparazzo wanted more than $100,000 for the images, but she said the network was unable to verify their authenticity and said they posed an ethical quandary.

"There's an ethical line that you draw when you cannot prove beyond a shadow of a doubt," Hudson said.

The photos were published in the Spanish-language magazine TVnotas.

Earlier Tuesday, Archbishop John C. Favalora apologized to parishioners and listeners.

"Father Cutie's actions cannot be condoned despite the good works he has done as a priest," Favalora said in a statement. "Scandals such as this offer an occasion for the Church on all levels to examine our consciences regarding the integrity of our commitments to the Lord and to his Church."
