"Up rode the squatter mounted on his thoroughbred" does NOT mean the squatter had mounted his thoroughbred in a sexual sense, and then arrived! (note: I specifically avoided the word "came")
And "all your homo friends singing naked as a jay bird" ... how do the words to "naked as a jay bird" go? Is that an old English football song like "Dinah Dinah show us yer leg?"
