Here we go...
Easiest way to separate 65" of annual rainfall from effluent, no need for side sheets or double drains.
Clamp stays dry in event of rain during harvesting.
Who really wants to sheet up a clamp, or roll back the top sheet 2 or 3 times a week, in driving rain and a howling gale? Tyres are so much nicer to handle when they are clean and dry (and do not perish as fast undercover).
Undercover storage for straw, fertiliser, machinery.
When we are loading the mixer wagon we do not lose half the premix or alkalage with every gust of wind.
The steel in the roof strengthens the whole building so there is less stress on the junction between the walls and floor.
Finally, if we ever get fed up of milking cows we are the proud owners of two 105'x40' buildings 24' high to the gutters, suitable for a variety of industrial uses, indoor tennis courts, climbing walls, etc. Ever tried getting planning permission for non-agricultural buildings of this scale in open countryside...?
