On Telly- A Tonight Special
For anyone unfortunate to have watched ITV this evening. . .they can't help but be moved by the apalling conditions that some Romanian children are forced to live in, in the countries "institutions".
As a person with family, I am horrified at how these children and young adults are forced to live their lives, and sickened by the conditions they are forced to endure.
Any human being can see that is morally wrong to keep children tied up, or restrained in cots, boxes, and where they never feel fresh air against their skin, and where they are sentenced to a lifetime of misery.
Whilst we all occasionally moan about the state of our industry, and how milk prices could be better. . . thank god we live in a civilised world where places like this would never be allowed.

Re: On Telly- A Tonight Special
I didn't see the programme, but I totally agree with your sentiments. It is tragic that this still happens in a part of Europe in the 21st century.
Everyone was aware of these problems when the iron curtain first fell, but as the short attention span of the media moved elsewhere they have been forgotten for several years. It is nearly a decade since my sister volunteered with a Christian charity improving one of these orphanages, and I am shocked to think conditions have not improved since.
There are a few cattle breeders that have taken it upon themselves to help directly. The Yeazels of Ja-Bob spring to mind - they help an orphanage at Camul Felix in Romania.

Re: On Telly- A Tonight Special
My father-in-law has twice led church teams to romania to undertake building projects.
The most recent one this year was to construct a simple medical centre in a village miles from anywhere. The team, one of whom was a nurse, also brought some medical supplies and hope to send more with continued communication with the small church in the village.
My wife also spent a summer ministering to young people there several years ago.
Apparently it is an extremely corrupt society - there are many rotten apples in the system that divert money to where it shouldn't be etc. They are very poor, and are so delighted with what little gifts they receive.
Interestingly, my f-n-lw thinks they are probably happier than most of us, despite their hardship.
