Both heifers now coming to the end of there first lactation, both scored gp83, top pictured heifer has produced a bit more than bottom one,top one is due to baxter and bottom one to dictator, any ideas as too matings for next year? i like bottom heifer better nicer temperament, she's a little flat of rib though.

shottle heifers opinion
The second heifer stands out to me a little better as well. to me the first one looks a little more rounder in the rump where as the second looks a little more dairy to me. But it could be just the way the too are standing. You did say the first one milked better.
Not sure what the dam is on either of them but I've heard Durham or durham sons work nicely with shottle. I am not sure what your goals are, but I would consider Lylehaven Lightning for more type Ensenada Taboo Planet for outcross production or Goldwyn for a combination of type and production. Nice heifers.

shottle heifers opinion
Yeah your right the bottom pictured heifer is definately more dairy.
We have just bought 30straws of autumn ridge matson from genus(durham son) so maybe keep some for her next year when she's ready to breed back.

Re: shottle heifers opinion
Like shottle works quite well on Durhams, durham sons should work quite well on shottles.
One thing shottle needs, depending what the cow is out of. Is substance to their rumps, along with more dairy quality. The ones I have seen, tend to have rumps that aren't eye poppers, they are decent, but nothing glamarous. But again, it depends what he is mated to, and IMO Durham is a good cross.

Just thought i'd update you on these 2 shottles.
Both have calved and in 2nd lactation top one giving 45kg/day,she calved a baxter bull. Bottom one pictured gave us a overside dictator heifer! And is giving 35kg/day
Both have matured into nice cows,i'm hoping to breed them to Plaid this year if we can get some?
