Daniel 3: 1-30
A very interesting read if you have never read it before. A good Veggie Tale movie, too.
So we have the king, Nebuchadnezzar, who makes this gold statue of himself and tells the people that when they hear the music they have to prostate themselves and worship the statue. Sounds a bit familiar, huh? Anyhow, the govt. officials come to him and tell ole Nebby that three won't do it.
So Nebby has them bound and thrown into the fire of the furnace. Ole Nebby is sittin' there watching, waitin' for them to burn up but he sees a fourth person. He asks his officials, didn't we throw three people in the fire? He sees the fourth and says that the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. Now who do we think that was? Perhaps a pre-incarnate Jesus? The same who wrestled with [ Jacob ] ?
So Nebby now has them brought out of the furnace and makes a decree that [ if anyone ] whoever talks badly about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego's God, they will be cut in pieces and their homes razed. He also praises God--the God Who delivered them from the furnace.
So the whole point to all this is that God can, will, and has delivered us all from temptations and pressures in our lives.
It would have been really easy to just follow Nebby's command and worship the statue but they remained true to God. Nowadays that seems to be harder and harder. It's really easy to give in to temptation and follow the crowd. So take comfort in knowing that God is always there for you.
